VoIP software is a pretty general topic.

Are you looking for client apps? Server apps? PBXes? Online services?

Yeah sorry, an asterisk client to make/receive calls via my bluetooth headset.

something like iaxcomm but more feature rich. Basically software to replace my piece of shit SIP phone.

Asterisk uses SIP so any SIP voip device/software should work. As far as softphones go I like x-lite/eyebeam from Counterpath.

For SIP ATAs I like Sipura a lot.

I wouldn't say skype. No, not at all. Definitely not in the linux community. And for the basic use of protocol, it's a big no no. So, that's just not a good idea right there. Nope.

Ill second the x-lite by counterpath as a softphone works well with many different sip based systems.
