you can't swing at him physically but you can swing at his will?

if you heard the announcers all game (i just watched the dvr) you will understand that tyler was swinging at his will

bwahaha

Was not an intended punch but was a fist swung in the vicinity of Costner's face. A stupid move that could get him ejected, even if he shouldn't be.

Here is my take on this play (and i watched it 15 times on DVR)

Hansborough shoots and Costner fouls the shit out of him.

Then Hansborough all but collects the rebound before Costner makes a great play to steal the rebound.

Hansborough's left arm is tangled up with Costner's right arm and Costner violently jerks his hand away which probably didnt feel really good for the guy whose arm is trapped in there.

There is mounting frustration because UNC is losing, Hansborough got hacked and didnt get the foul call, he lost the rebound, and got his arm about ripped out of socket.

I'm not gonna blame him for being pretty pissed in that situation. I thought the technical was pretty lame and they should have just stopped the play and given both teams a warning.

It's absolute foolishness if you think a technical wasn't warranted. You can't swing your fist in an opponents face, whether or not you are attempting a punch.

T was warranted, but he wasnt swinging at the guys face.

It looked to me like the thought costner swung his arm too close to him and he reacted by trying to swat Costners arm back. The frustration obviously got to him.

They could have just as easily called the technical on Costner. He's the one that started it by violently jerking his hand away.

If theyd called the tech on Costner you guys would be signing a totally different tune.

If anything it probably should have been a double tech.

It's hilarious to me that UNC fans are bitching so hard about the refs though. For the first time in history a UNC game is called pretty fairly and because they are not used to not getting all the calls they go crazy.

It definately fell under unsportsman-like conduct. I think it was a combo of the swing, and he seemed to say something that probably sealed it for him.

I'll take the T since it was UNC, but if it happened to Ben, we'd definately be calling bullshit on it.

Hansborough is an idiot (u cant argue this, even if youre a unc fan), and so is anyone who is trying to defend him ; hes a robot who for once in his life shows some emotion b/c he didnt get his way. maybe he finally learned that the world doesnt revolve around him, even though the anouncers still havnt learned this. i bet that little fairy whined all the way back to chapel hill with his tail between his legs.

I really don't understand how you can call for a double tech

if two guys fight on the court each team gets to the foul line and then you give the ball back to the team that had it when the fight started

but a double T wasn't warranted.

You could maybe have called a regular foul on Costner along with the T on Hansbrough, but Costner didn't do anything to draw a technical.

Costner started the whole thing by violently ripping his arm away when they were tangled up.

You could absolutely give him a tech for that.

It'd be gay, but you could.

I dont like hansborough but if someone did that shit to me Id def let them know about it one way or the other.

He did a good job to restrain himself and not throw a punch or take a cheap shot. I think the refs could have just issued a warning. No harm no foul.

That is bullshit. Hansbrough was not giving up on a finished rebound. He was there trying to knock the ball loose after costner had control. When he was forcibly thrown off his back he reacted with a swing towards his head. You cannot react like that. Reactions are where you get the technicals which is what happened. Also when Hansbrough got "fouled" on the previous shot who innitiated the contact. If the offensive player initiates the contact it isn't supposed to be a foul. Of course Hansbrough usually gets the call anyway because of his "will" or whatever.

There should have been a double technical in that whole skirmish there. Costner taunted and did throw in the elbow.

Hansbrough didn't give up on on a finished play and then swung near or at someone with is fist how is that not a technical???

A double technical? He removed Handblow from his back because the refs were letting Handblow jump all over his back. Taunting? Are you refering to him calling attention to the thrown fist?

Look theres no doubt that Costner hacked the shit out of him on that play.

And then he started the whole thing by violently moving his arm.

Costner is a tough dude. Im glad he did that. But its stupid to act like Hansborough was the one at fault there. He didnt start the shit.

the technical was a little weak. I really thought they were calling it on Costner and i think Costner thought that too at first.

but we've been absolutely SCREWED on some of the most bogus technical calls ever (marcus melvin anyone? or how about the time a trainer spilled water on the floor accidentally) so i dont give a damn.

Reactions are where technicals come from. You can't be out of a play and then jump back in with a fist in the general area of a head(Handblow was flung from costners back and came back in swinging). It was a no call before because the refs saw handblow as initiating the contact. They then saw that Costner established better initial rebounding position and Handblow was on his back therefore he was given some leeway for clearing him off of his back.

i dont see how anyone can think ripping your hand towards you body is a tech. its your hand. nobody should be holding your hand. hansbrough swung at his face. after watching it i see that he was just trying to clap both hands out of frustration but it was too close to costners face.

whether it is warranted or not, him dunking and hanging on a rim and smacking the boards should have been a tech so at worst, it was a makeup call.
