http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/sunshine/trailera/

A new film by "Trainspotting" and "28 Days Later" director Danny Boyle about:

"Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel. There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress beacon from a spaceship that disappeared seven years earlier. Soon the crew is fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity."

Sounds kind of like "Solaris" meets "Pitch Black" meets "Event Horizon" and it looks like it will have some really badass special effects and stunts.

Can anyone identify for me the song that plays throughout the trailer? I woke up this morning with it stuck in my head and it took me damn near an hour to figure out where I had heard it. [Nevermind I found it here, for anyone else interested: http://www.sunshinedna.com/]

Anyway on with the discussion, cast list looks great:

Chris Evans (The Human Torch from "Fantastic Four)
Cillian Murphy (Jim from "28 Days Later", Scarecrow from "Batman Begins", etc)
Rose Byrne (Briseis from Troy who I thought was more beautiful than Helen of Troy)
Michelle Yeoh (Yu Shu Lien from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon")
Cliff Curtis (Pablo Escobar from "Blow")
Troy Garity
Mark Strong
Hiroyuki Sanada (Ujio from "The Last Samurai")
Benedict Wong

From http://www.movies.yahoo.com it looks like the release dat is March 16, 2007.

i havn't seen anything I've liked from Boyle (post Trainspotting) besides The Beach....

that trailer & the plot looks intriguing though.

i got a kick out of hearing the music originally written in Requiem for a Dream used in this trailer!

i thought the requiem stuff was kronos quartet

at work now, dont have speakers to hear this.

[on edit... looks like it was a clint mansell creation that kronos performed.]

They need to stop playing that one track for a bunch of unrelated trailers. Hell, they even used it for Lord of the Rings once. Yes, it's a nice track. Or it was before it was overused, anyway.

I have nothing else to add except to say that Cillian Murphy is hot.

"song in trailer is overused"

ok, besides Requiem, LOTR, and now Sunshine... what trailers have this song in it?

I hear movie trailers running all day/night at work, and those are the only ones I can recall.

Name atleast another 5 or so since it's so "over used an played out"

I really can't think of any other.

it hasn't been too played out yet - it's no "carmina burana" by any means

This sounds like 2001 but not brilliant.

I guess that means it could be not boring, too.

This just jumped to the top of my want-to-see list.

It screams shades of The Core - I love a good no-thinking save the world sci-fi epic from time to time.

I think its kind of ridiculous. Kind of like this movie is trying to give us something else to think about that's completely opposite of global warming.

That theme is also used in the film "One-hour Photo", and I'm almost positive I've heard it in a trailer for a horror flick.

eh decent movie. Wasn't too impressed with the last quarter of the movie, but beyond that, good popcorn flick.

yea i saw it last week but didnt see this thread and didnt feel like lookin for it.

it was visually excellent, and the plot was pretty good. i just hated the last 20 minutes or so cause it seemed to go astray from the the level of realism they had established up to that point. still a good movie overall though.

it reminded me a lot of that episode of firefly where they find and board the ship that was attacked by reavers...i dont want to give anymore details just in case someone who hasnt seen the movie but has seen that episode reads it and finds it to be spoilerish.

It was alright.

I hate watching "realistic" space films where they have to increase the stupidity of the crew/context in order to make the story possible. A real space program (well, maybe not the soviet union) would design their missions so the things that happened in this story would not likely happen.

For example, the original accident wouldn't happen because one dude wouldn't be able to maneuver the ship without his crew mates/mission control double checking his calculations and procedures (Needless to say, the reason they lost communication was laughable).

I think it's that it was trying to say something big (in a 2001 space odyssey sense) but fell short of doing that really well.

it kept you on the edge of your seat, but the end didn't really fit with the rest of the movie

worth renting, but I wouldn't spend your money in the theater. it did have some really cool shots though.
