Which one recruit would you have liked to enrolled over the last 6 seasons in both sports to have made our respective programs better. For me, basketball has to be Shakur, would have brought the true point guard that we needed and would have been a HUGE addition to the team. In football, this one might be a little more tricky, but I am out on a limb and going to say Schaffer the first time out of high school. The kid can play, and would have started here from day one, it's too bad he was scared off by Stone this season and he got pounded at Miss by SEC defenses.

football wise, i'd say chris leak.

he was definately incosistent at times with florida, but he was 1039809 times better then any other quarterback we've had since rivers.

negative on shakur...we wouldnt have gotten engin
josh adams? really?
schaffer - overrated

chris wright is who we need for next year's basketball team. He would make a HUGE difference.

i dont think there is one single football recruit that wouldve made much of a difference...leak wouldve had no time behind our offensive line. we really had no realistic shot at him anyway.

Football: No one we would have squandered the talent anyway. We're better off where we are now.

Basketball: Shakur hasnt turned out all that well but neither have most of the guys we missed on.... Fuss-cheatem, bobby perry, mike nardi, gilchrist, shavlik...Wilcox woulda been alright but Im gonna go with chris wright just in case he's dirty

We were at least "on the list" early for Leak. It's hard to say how close we could have come, because we stopped recruiting him when Stone committed their junior year.

i think this question is for realistic chances, and leak was never realistic...Leak's "early" list was always UT. he said at one point that the only in-state school he would even consider was nc state but we were never close to his top 5 or anything.

a more realistic QB recruit we lost would be Tim Tebow or Harrison Beck (who we now have). Both of whom considered us a lot more than Leak.

^Yeah. It's kind of tough since most of the QBs we were really recruiting hard we actually got , save Schaeffer and Beck. I think we recruited Cory Holt as well, but it may have just been since his name was Holt, since he was beaten out by Glennon at VT.

Another near miss on VT was Xavier Adibi, a beast of a LB.

Well Hickson wouldn't be in the picture if Wright were, it's one or the other.......And Leak was really looking at UT and the straw that broke the camel's back I believe was when Fulmer put his older brother at backup LB when his natural position was QB.....Adibi would have been one of the best linebackers to ever come through this school had he come here

how do you figure that it was either wright or hickson? thats way off. hickson and tracy smith both committed while we were still recruiting chris wright. marques johnson just transferred here. do you think he wouldve done that if we didnt have a scholarship for him? (obviously meaning we had an open scholarship)

brackman, simmons, werner and davis all leaving opened the door for next year's class.

and no way did fulmer put CJ Leak at LB. CJ was told he could play QB..fulmer put him in for about 2 series and yanked him. thats what pissed chris leak off.

are you just misinformed for what?

----"Several months ago, it was a foregone conclusion that he was headed to the University of Tennessee. After all, his older brother C.J. Leak had transferred there from Wake Forest and he has been backing up starting quarterback Casey Clausen. But this season, James Banks, a true freshman, has taken over the reigns as Clausen’s back up.

That didn’t sit well with the Leaks and Chris has since dropped the Volunteers.

Tennessee’s loss is everyone’s gain. Leak now has taken four official visits to Florida, Texas, Florida State and Southern Cal. He hopes to try and squeeze in a visit to Iowa this weekend. There is a time constraint because Leak wants to announce his decision at halftime of the All-American Bowl in Texas on January 5."----

^^ Once Sendek left, Wright was out of the picture, despite what you hear, once the new staff was in place, Hickson came into the picture. So yes, we technically were still recruting Wright with the current coaching staff, but it was in no way feasible to land him, despite what you've heard. I don't even think Wright was formally introduced to the staff, could be wrong there though

^ Um, I've seen depth charts where CJ was at LB, that's a fact. While being yanked at Qb certainly didn't sit well with the Leak's, putting him at LB had to be salt in the already open wound.

you are absolutely wrong..on both counts. any depth chart you saw was in error. no way fulmer was going to put a career QB who weighs 200lbs and who has a bum knee and achilles tendon at LB. maybe you would be a little more believable if you had said CB or even safety.

chris wright met with both larry harris and sidney lowe on campus. before lowe was hired, he crossed us off the list, but after we got lowe he became interested again. his final 2 were us and Gtown. a lot of the national guys (telep, for one) thought we had gotten him back and were surprised when he went to gtown.

trust me, you dont want to argue shit like this with me. ive forgotten for about nc state recruiting and college sports than i care to admit.

Wright is in his senior season... in high school. I'd like to have him. He is a Top 5 PG in the country incoming and that is our weakness. Anyone who thinks we "don't need him" is crazy...

I'd like to have gotten Mike Nardi. We'd be a tourney team this year and he would have made our past 2 teams that much better.

--------------

Hickson and Smith would have in no way precluded us from signing Wright. If Wright was still in hand Johnson doesn't transfer here.

V maybe Larry Davis? The kid who went to Seton Hall instead? He's ok but nothing to regret losing

Sorry boss, YOU'RE wrong, CJ was moved to Linebacker, I saw him play a down at the position, and yes, I would gladly test my memory against yours, but that would be pretty pointless, I've even linked you to articles about it. It was a pretty big deal at the time, can't believe you missed it, unless of course, you were on the moon.

And I'm not really concerned with what anyone heard about Wright after we lost Sendek. Yes, we still "recruited" him, of course we would, the guy's a star. A lot of lip service goes on with these recruitments. But we had no realistic chance in my opinion. I think i was ambiguous when stating that we either would have gotten Hickson or Wright not both. All I was saying is that Wright would be here if Sendek were here, and that Hickson would/will be here if Lowe is the coach. Nothing about Wright and hickson not being on the same team for any other reason than they were committed to different coaches.

This post shows a complete lack of knowledge about our recruiting this past year, and a lack of basketball knowledge in general.

FWIW, the night before CW picked georgetown he had told the state staff he was coming here, then his dad changed his mind for him. Hickson committed a few days later, but both had scheduled their press conferences the week before. Plus, why would a great guard and a great center prospect not want to play with each other? If anything, hickson would have been more likely than he already was to commit to us if CW had picked state. Everyone thought Eric Williams was a great center when he had Chris Paul as his point guard....well look what happened to him without that great guard.

what a dumb post.

^also, word has it that Wright was having second thoughts about State even before Sendek left. What Lowe did to get back into the game was no different than what Sendek would have had to do had he stayed.

Wright was never going to play for coach Lowe, I'm sorry if this disappoints you. I realize you've read all the insider websites and this makes you the grand wizard, but Wright committed to Sendek, not Lowe, and it was just too far along in the process to get back in the race. You must be an offical with the athletic department to make a claim:

We had a much more feasible chance with Stackhouse (with McInnis as a package deal), in fact, we were as close to Stackhouse as a school can get without getting him and had until late in the process when he decided to take a weekedn visit to CH

you tell me why the fuck Chris had a press conference to pick between GEORGETOWN AND NC STATE WHEN HE NEVER WANTED TO PLAY FOR COACH LOWE??????????????????????

We were in the final 2 for him. Someone could have made the night before thing up, but to say that he never considered playing for coach lowe is insane, only outdone in retardedness by saying that we either were going to get Wright OR Hickson. Stop showing your ignorance and stop talking about basketball recruiting, because to say that a great center and great guard prospect wouldnt want to play with each other is absolutely nuts.

I'm not saying they didn't want to play with one another, i'm saying that I believe Wright had no real intention of playing for NC State after Sendek left, and that Hickson's LOI was a direct result of Lowe's staff. Of course Wright did the decent thing and gave us the time of day when Lowe arrived, and had two hats or whatever when it came down to pick a school, but I don't think we ever were substantially in it after sendek, and you obvioulsy disagree. I'd read between the lines occasionally of what's out there. And if anything, Wright sure would have taken his time if he was truly torn between georgetown and NC State, as in, he woudln't have committed to them until signing day or close to it instead of when, November (I can't remember the exact date). If we were truly in the mix, I think Wright would have taken some more time to visit and get to know the new staff with as much time as available if he ever had real intentions of going to NC State.

Quote :
"Plus, why would a great guard and a great center prospect not want to play with each other? "

You might want to ask Wright this question

Quote :
"because to say that a great center and great guard prospect wouldnt want to play with each other is absolutely nuts."

You have outdone yourself this time, and I expected a little more profanity and personal insults, you're getting slack. And if it is so nuts, then why didn't Wright come here.......It's obviously got something to do with something else...I realize you take the recruiting websites as the gospel, but I can assure you, they're not always 100%.

Wright waited a couple of months to make his decision just a few weeks before signing day. He visited multiple times, came to a few football games, and everyone at NC State that talked to him said he seemed to really enjoy himself here. He wasnt "doing the right thing", he was truly torn between the school he committed to that got a new coach, and the new school in georgetown. Word from OUR coaching staff said that Chris's dad called almost in tears to tell coach lowe that wright was going to georgetown.

What the fuck....saying that a great guard and great center prospect should want to play with each other has nothing to do with recruting websites you idiot...thats common basketball knowledge.

Something to do with something else....good one....like Georgetown putting together back to back stellar recruiting classes, Austin Freeman going in with christ wright....Georgetown has one hell of a program. I dont blame chris for not coming here seeing how Lowe was unproven. Thats why he's at georgetown...NOT because it was "one or the other of HIckson or Wright" . Thats my only point with this whole argument.

Didn't Leak get a scholarship offer (intent) from WFU when he was in 8th grade? Guess he didn't pay them much attention considering what happened to his brother and the fact that they aren't a big-time football school.

The kid verballed on October 11th to G Town, the EARLY signing period isn't even until November, and the regular period was on Wednesday. If you think it was a situation where "his dad was in tears" because it was so tough, then why didn't he wait until at least the early signing period day in November to evaluate every possible aspect of the decision? Lowe's staff got here in what, April, so If Wright were truly interested, I would think he would want every minute he could get to evaluate Lowe and Company. Have you ever seen recruits and coaches talking about years of relationships that go back to their Freshman year of high school???? Seems kind of odd that Wright "was seriously interested in NC State" and didn't even use all of his time to make a decision, but I guess he knew the staff for a whopping 6 months????? There was obvoiously some factor or influence big enough for him to go ahead and pull the trigger 3 WEEKS before the EARLY signing period for G Town...You see where I'm going with this?

And to further explain myself again, I didn't mean that Hickson and Wright were aware of what each other was doing. I've tried to state this. I just knew that if Sendek were still coaching, we'd have Wright, if we have Lowe, we get Hickson. And I knew the second we lost Sendek, Wright was gone, I'm sorry if you thought we had a chance so late in the game, but that is certainly your choice.

^, yes Wake did, but you can't formally extend a verbal offter to a recruit until like his junior year. I think Wake just wanted to play the "we were the first to offer you and follow your career" when his senior year roled around, obviously things changed.

bc he "volunteered' to play something doesnt mean he did. no way he got on the field as a LB for anything other than garbage time for a punt return or something. maybe fulmer let him get on the field in a situation like that, but never was he on the fucking depth chart as a LB or even close to cracking the 2 deep. im sure the bills story came from his own mouth trying to make himself look better, so i wouldnt use those as gospel.

and yes, i know for a fact Wright considered coming here to play for Lowe, and he considered it for a long time. this is FACT. this is not from a website.

to:
Quote :
"no way he got on the field as a LB for anything other than garbage time "

backpeddling.....I'm guessing Jaybee could clear it up even further, I 'm pretty sure he was a backup LB, but I saw him play a few snaps, have no idea what stage in the game, but you initially said "No way"

The kid played Linebacker, I saw him take snaps, the links provide factual information, I don't know how else to put it

Quote :
"this is FACT"

Of course he considered coming here, he was committed at one point, but once Sendek left, it was over in my opinion. Please back up where you state Wright "considered heavily" after Lowe got here, because he sure didn't use all of the time he had to get to know Lowe's staff before deciding on G Town

Ok AA, We're done, but you can't say I don't use logic when you use "retardedness" as an actual word

Yeah when I saw this thread I thought way back when Pete Maravich but something happened. Wasn't it that he couldn't get into State and his dad was coach, Press Maravich, and they both left and went to LSU???

Here is one nobody has said: Scottie Reynolds. He is ballin for Nova as a freshman. Keith Bogans comes to mind. Al Harrington is probably the biggest miss, but he went pro.

I thought in football we recruited Roscoe Parrish instead of Hester? I would have loved to had either one. And no Cory Holt was not offered by us. I played against him back in the day and he wanted to go here and Chuck told him our QB situation was set with Davis/Stone. What a mistake. He doesn't even get to play for V Tech and Glennon isn't even that good. He could play here.

i would have loved to seen Schea Cotton end up here a few years ago in basketball. Don't remember whatever happened to him, but I think he was injury-plagued and played way out west somewhere?

basketball: schea cotton, chris wright, scottie reynolds (nova pg), nardi (nova pg), al harrington (very close to coming here from what i remember, but opted for GT/NBA), mustafa shakur, mj

football: santonio holmes, devin hester, roscose parrish, chris leak, schaeffer, chad green, brian dennison, paul wilder, devin aromashadu (whatever his name was, WR at auburn recently), josh adams, elijah dukes, ken phillips, dorian munroe

baseball: paul wilder, paul stewart, josh hamilton, mark osborne
