Now I know it is extremely early but have any of yall checked out next years recruits, right now there are nothing but 1 and 2 stars and several of them already have offers from us. Why do we go ahead and give them an offer? Those 1 and 2 star players are a dime a dozen and there will be plenty available when we miss out on some bigger recruits. I know some of you are going to say stars aren't worth crap but that is simply not true, just look at USC. I have would like to see some better depth in our recruiting classes so we can become a power house and 1/2 star talent will not do it.

they dont give out star rankings until august. almost everyone is generic 1 or 2 stars with like the top 50 being 5

Stars are nice, but they really don't mean much. Just like pre-season rankings. The majority of State's most successful football players were not highly touted coming out of high school.

the majority of our recruits have never been that good that is why honestly we have never really been that good. You may get lucky and find that 3 star Philip Rivers but not very often. There are two main things you need in college football and they are in this order.
1. Great Coacing (which we may have now)
2. And two great talent or at least good talent that can be coached to great.

Go back at look at the last 10 national Champions and look at there consistent recruiting classes they are almost all 3 to 5 stars

we have plenty of talent, especially on the offensive side. however, it's pretty much negated by our run of shitty qb's.

Any junior that is listed with two stars on scout.com is considered a top 100 NATIONAL recruit for 2008. They almost all will be getting 4 or 5 stars when the preseason rankings come out. Basically the highest a junior is rated right now is 2 stars. TOB has offered the top three players in NC already (who will be four or five star).

FSU always has top 10 classes.
Wake is lucky to break top 40.
They sure did beat the shit out of FSU.

Amato was about recruiting...TOB is about coaching. I'll take the latter.

And if you want to talk about 1 and 2 star players being rarely any good.... name off some of the Amato era NFL players. The only one that I can think of that was 4 or 5 stars was Mario.

demarrio pressley, TA, tank tyler, marcus stone, tramain hall, sterling hicks, andre brown, toney baker, curtis crouch, derek morris, aj dave, jay davis, jimmie sutton, darrell blackman, and ray brooks were all 4-5 star guys right off the top of my head.

demarrio, AJ, crouch, baker and brown will probably all play in the NFL

if you go back and look at the history of star rankings and 1st round picks, well over 50% of first rounders were 4 stars.

look at the top ten of those years respectivly and you'll come to a much different conclusion

Statefans linked to something saying only about 60% of 4/5 * recruits pan out (can't remember what the criteria was, NFL?).

The same study also talked about recruits that are getting attention from the traditional powerhouses get bumped up in rankings just on that fact. It's something we here at NCSU have noted how once recruits sign with us, they have fallen in rankings.

Statements like these are generally asinine anyway. Durr, every school in the country wants to fill their depth chart with all 5 stars, but it isn't going to happen over night at NCSU, and I'm pretty sure this staff knows what the fuck they are doing. We'll be fine.

i think the program's problems the last couple of years are almost entirely due to a) shitty qb's; b) constant staffing changes. those two things are ultimately at the fault of amato, so it your statement is fair.

as for the second question, i was somewhere in the middle. i felt that amato may have deserved another year with burke at qb. on the other hand, i wasn't terribly upset to see him fired. i was infuriated with tommy-o's hiring though.
