I used the shitty red SATA cable that came with my MB, damn thing kept coming loose, after it fucked up windows files several times and I believe it fucked up a couple of sectors, I got one of the locking type of cable, only to have the new locking cable come loose, not out, but loose enough for it to screw up windows files. Will this ever be fixed or do I have to go back to PATA?

I've never had this problem on any computer I've built. Are they coming loose from the motherboard, the drive or both? How are they actually coming loose? Are you moving the computer a lot or are the cables run very oddly? My guess, without more info, would be that the connectors on the drive or MOBO are defective/shitty.

I just put an sata drive in a few weeks ago and I was definitely surprised there isn't any sort of a locking mechanism on the drive. In the process of installing the OS, copying things over from an old drive, and removing it, I evidently knocked the SATA cable loose because on the next boot, it gave me OS not found errors.

I put an sata dvd burner in a few minutes ago and same thing, seems loose.

some sata cables have locking mechanisms...i bought two from tigerdirect for $3 that had them...what's worse is that my idiot self forgot they were locking and on one of my drives back when sata was new, pulled it out without depressing the plate with the hooks/tines...ripped some plastic off the drive, but it worked just fine

sounds like cornbread has some weird situation where his cables are being held in awkward positions, causing it to lose contact...or his drive/mobo is messed up

had this happen with the intel cables on a new motherboard. then the connector actually broke on another cable so it wouldn't stay in.

Also my connections on the MB are the enclosed type, and the HD is a seagate. The locking cable is working much better but still has failed once in the last 3 weeks. Before it was down to every few days. Interesting other people aren't having this many problems. I'm guessing it's my shitty MB. The drive I already had replaced. I have also tried swapping from port 0 to port 1 with no differences.

I've driven my computer between cities dozens and dozens of times and my sata cables have never come loose.

There's even some tension on them from zip-tying.

if its just a loose problem, use some hot glue on it to keep it in place. Voodoo used to do that to keep cables in place for shipping.

Computer sits in the computer desk I don't stick my dick in the A drive or anything, so it should be fine. It has to be my shitty MB, I've replaced the HD and cable and even swapped SATA ports.

I actually had a locking cable hold so strong it broke off the plastic SATA connector plate forcing me to RMA my hard drive... other than that no issues w/ SATA cables, though I don't think they hold as good as they should.
