Didn't see it anywhere else
Quote :
"North Carolina State's women's basketball coach could receive special recognition this Friday when the Wolfpack hosts the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Board of Trustees at North Carolina State University could vote Friday morning to approve a motion that would name the basketball court at Reynolds Coliseum after Kay Yow.

Yow has coached at State for 32 years. She recently won her 700th career game, joining five other coaches in the history of women's Division 1 basketball to do so.

Yow has also been a symbol of strength during her public battle with breast cancer. She recently returned to the sidelines after taking time off to fight the disease."

Any chance if this happens, there might be a push to get the RBC Center's court named after Jimmy V (even though he didn't coach in the building)

this sounds like a great idea, and I think naming the court after Jimmy V at the RBC is a good one too

but the RBC court doesn't need to be named after anyone

Very true. She's meant a hell of a lot to this University.

Is she the the longest serving head coach (of any sport) here?

I'd like to see Jimmy V recognized with a court, but I don't really know that he should get one and Case shouldn't, but then again, case already got something named after him and the haters always find that little blemish on the end of Valvano's career here.

I think you can count on them.

I'd even suggest a front-page story submission but it's a really bad time for that.

I say don't name the court at the RBC Center after V. Instead just put up three bronze life size statues of Case, Sloan, and Valvano at the front entrance of the arena. I still think we need a NC State basketball hall of fame/museum. Alabama has a museum on their campus. It'd be nice just to see the history of State's basketball program all accounted for in one building with classic photos and timelines.

Museum or statues would rock. Yeah there are some State fans that live in the past too much, but there are SO MANY current students who have no idea of our history. A museum or at least more museum type stuff at the RBC Center would help

Wait, what has she done again besides getting cancer?

She made it to the final 4 like 15 years ago, right?

And she hasn't really done shit since?

OK name the court after her.

And name the RBC court after Herb Sendek while you're at it.

are you saying put the statues outside of reynolds or rbc? it would never happen outside of rbc while we share the building with the hurricanes and whatever else.

^ she still means a hell of a lot to the university and is brings a great deal of class to basketball

You probably couldn't even coach a little league basketball team, let alone defeat cancer at the same time.

Well it'd be nice to put them up at the front of the arena, but we could easily put the museum in some of the land adjacent to the arena, and have the statues at the entrance to that. i mean that area already is considered an athletic complex. State fans could go to it prior to games, and even visiting fans could see it and learn more about our history, in effect putting them in a state of awe. Many Alabama fans make it a tradition to visit their museum on gamedays.

I mean we're the birth of cutting down the nets in the college game, spotlight player introductions, the alley-oop play, big-time basketball in the state of North Carolina and the South, the Father of the ACC, etc. etc.

Case already has the Athletic Center next to Reynolds.

if Case is named after anything more, it should be either the mezzanine, or the locker room, or something else. I'd even rather have a statue of Case in front of the RBC center, more so than Valvano...

but that court belongs to Jimmy V.

^^Case's contributions to basketball amount to anecdotes, footnotes, and afterthoughts, even in sports writers' pieces. He DID do alot, but he's not quite Rupp or Naismith. V, on the other hand, is very well known, and, despite his ugly demise here, IS the face of NC State Basketball, now and probably forever.

As great as Case was, I think Valvano really captured the heart of the wolfpack nation.

He needs a court named after him or we continue to suck. Mark those words.

if valvano hadn't died from cancer and made some dramatic speeches, no one would give a damn. naming of the court should only have to do with nc state, not what someone did for cancer awareness and how many sportswriters aren't worth a damn when it comes to basketball history.

as you probably know, case established big time basketball in the south. he made the southern conference and the acc. case made nc state basketball into what it would be for 50 years. case's success at nc state forced unc to hire dean smith. duke hired one of case's former players and assistants, vic bubas, and he turned duke into a basketball power. he coached norm sloan too. case brought down several traditions from indiana and started others, like cutting down the nets. case is nc state basketball. unc, duke, wake, maryland, and virginia fans would all assuredly agree; as would former acc players. i don't care what espn, joe buck in minnesota, or some sports writer in texas thinks.
