I had this feeling about this time last year, so we went to a bed and breakfast in Troy for the weekend and went to the zoo one day. I like bed and breakfasts a lot, and they're all over, so you can figure out if you want to go to the mountains or the beach or if there's some other thing you want to do and find one nearby. 2/18/2007 12:11:08 AM |

you can go to Boone or Asheville. far enough away but not too far. both are fun places.
although i dont know what the travelling is like. you might want to try the Outer Banks. Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, and all points in between.

if you go to charleston , tell your boyfriend to take you on a horse carriage ride downtown charleston by the battery. girls love that shit, and while i hated it... looking at all the history down there was pretty cool so if your boyfriend is interested in civil war history at all then he may be down for it. 2/18/2007 2:35:15 AM |

my husband and i just got back from the outer banks about a week ago. it was cold that week with the winds but it looks like the weather is getting better. we actually went hang gliding off of jockeys ridge. it was awesome... since it was just us and the instructor we actually got to do extra flights. and hotels in general are pretty cheap. some are just closed until sometime in march because of having less business, but we never had any trouble finding places while we were there. skip 2/18/2007 2:32:00 PM |

i think it was like $89/person. But if you go on Sun, Mon or Tue you can get $5 off per person. You get 5 flights and instruction for that. (and the instructor carries the hang glider back up the dune). We were there for several hours and had a good time (and we each got an extra flight) so it was worth it. skip

^Completely different.
When you come upon a situation like this, you have a few options.
Look on the internet and get spoon-fed biased information about places to visit and things to do...OR...
Ask a bunch of people who will give you real-life stories and mostly un-biased information on places that you've never been to (or been to sparingly).

just got back from charleston with my guy...his was a work trip though, but i have friends that live in Daniel Island (crazy stepford ) so they showed me around town until he was done working. it was COLD and WINDY as hell this past weekend, but it's apparently supposed to be much warmer there this week. we stayed at The Cabell House (a B&B) which is right off Church St by The Battery. She was friends with the owner of The Palmer House, so we had breakfast there (around the corner, beautiful pink B&B on East Bay overlooking the water). We didn't eat at a fancy restaurant and kept to grilles and cafes, but everything was delicious. It was a good time and a nice trip away from Raleigh for the weekend...even if he did have to work for part of it. We'd love to go back when it's warmer. 2/19/2007 9:30:08 AM |

I love renting mountain cabins in the winter- you can get a nice cabin with views and a hot tub at a "3 nights for the price of 2" deal in the off season, pretty much anything not near a ski resort will be cheap this time of year.
ticacabins.com was where we rented last year, we got a 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 3 story cabin with hot tub, 2 jacuzzis, pool table, for $450 for three nights. (under $100 each person, including our day trip to the ABC store) smaller places would probably be cheaper, and we had such a good time we're doing it again in a few weeks! 2/19/2007 1:06:02 PM |
