so I have a tundra, and today I noticed that the oil pressure varies with the rpm of my engine, granted it should a little, but I'm talking a big difference. I dont think its done this before (I think I would have noticed) but I realized it today. Its an 04, bought preowned from a dealership and I've put about 8k miles since I got it. Any ideas of whats causing it to change? 2/18/2007 10:18:11 PM |

not abnormal for pressure to fluctuate as much as 40-50psi or so throughout an rpm range.
as long as it's not real low or real high don't worry about it. 2/18/2007 10:20:26 PM |

when was the last time you changed the oil
I used to have a car that would start having a squirly oil pressure about every 3000 miles. Thats how i knew it was time to change the oil 2/18/2007 10:23:57 PM |

Oil pressure fluctuating with RPM is what you want. It means the oil pump is working. 2/18/2007 10:43:02 PM |

I changed the oil about 3100 miles ago (taking it in for the 60k check up this week), but its never fluctuated as much as it is right now. when I idle, it will drop big time, then at take off it jumps to almost the top of the range. I was just worried because its never changed like this before. 2/18/2007 11:56:32 PM |

as the bearings get worn, you will see a bigger dicrepancy in the oil pressure. I had a truck one time that would have 50 psi when it was cold and drop to less than 5 when it was idling and hot. 1500 rpm difference on it could mean a good 20 psi difference. 2/19/2007 7:15:26 AM |
