I've always not given a crap about my hair, and since for the past 5 or 6 years I've just kept a short buzzcut (#2 or #3 guard all over) and that's done me well all the way through college.
A couple of things happened that made me want to change and get something more fitting:
1) I'm starting to work more in a professional environment, and I'm the only one with a buzzcut. A couple of people actually told me that I would look better with longer hair (I don't really care what they say, but it has made me think about it) 2) My girlfriend says she thinks I would look better with a different haircut (yes, I'm whooped) 3) The main reason I want something different is that I have to wear glasses all the time now (no contacts) and I look like a dork with a buzzcut and glasses.
My last haircut was in early December, so it's grown out quite a bit lately and is in strong need of a haircut. It's starting to part itself a little, and getting curly on the ends.
Aside from a buzz cut, what are some of the more popular, low maintenance, short-to-medium length haircuts? Is it better to get them done with scissors or clippers? I'm not into the whole hairgel stuff, and just want something that I can towel dry and be done with in about 15 seconds (brushing, etc).
Something that will make the ladies go would be nice too
Thanks in advance for the advice. 2/19/2007 10:59:20 AM |

since your girl likes u hairless like a baby's ass.....shave it off..
oh well, after reading it, grow it out...i keep mine short(they call it golfer style here)...not buzzed, but not long either...plus it gets hot as hell in Texas in the summer, the less hair, the better...
also, in the morning, one less thing you have to worry about fixing.

15 minutes is excessive, unless you have an afro. my hair is a thick mess that never likes to move, but it doesn't take more than a couple minutes on average to get it. best way to figure out how you need to cut it is to ask a chick at a hair place, they know the styles and what looks good on individuals. or you g/f (their input usually decides whether or not they like what you end up doing). 2/19/2007 11:18:50 AM |

I prefer cutting with scissors than using clippers, but trimmers are nice to work with when shaping a man's hairstyle... 2/19/2007 11:54:18 AM |

two guard on the sides, fade it in (longer on the top) and finish with the Ceasar up top.
It's the "everyman haircut".

I, too, am curious as to what this looks like. Sounds good, quick, and low maintenance. If everyone has it, then it must be good! 2/19/2007 4:05:40 PM |

if your hair's curly you're probably going to have to deal with some kind of styling product
My hair's curly (long, though) and trust me, it's SCARY if I don't put stuff in it 2/19/2007 4:13:57 PM |

find a good barber in atlanta. Not the great clips "what numba clippa you want" or even the country bumpkin. Find one whose clientale is mostly professionals. Ask your boss. They should only use scissors except for maybe around the neck, if they don't do a straight razor shave.
I can't tell what kind of haircut, but just make sure you choose the right place. Some also have someone to shine your shoes (if it's legal there--in charlotte it is, but not raleigh for some assinine reason), I love the feeling of supiority from having someone shine your shoes--aha. 2/19/2007 6:34:01 PM |

Your haircut should really depend on your facial structure and head shape. Just find a good barber or stylist, tell them that you need something professional and easy to manage, and let them do their thing.

I just get the "Rich Franklin." I used to rock the buzzed/shaved look all the time as well and have changed over to this now that I'm actually an adult. It's still very utilitarian. I gel it up a bit in the morning and that's it. No brushing, not conditioning, no bullshit. When it grows out a little bit I stop gelling it and just let it lay flat. I need to get it trimmed up a bit now though.

I realized I forgot to update this thread after my initial inquiry. I have since had 2 haircuts.
During my first appointment with the barber, I told him that I was looking for something a little more professional looking than a buzz cut, with as little maintenance as possible. I also told him that since the glasses were a must now, I would need some sort of hair cut that would look decent with glasses (a buzzcut was not for me and glasses).
Before I sat down in the chair, he walked around me a few times and asked me a few questions, and then said he knew exactly what would look good on me. He showed me a picture of what he was thinking, and then a few alternatives. They all looked fine and about the same to me, so I just said to go with his instinct.
He ended up using a #3 clipper on the side and back with a slight taper down towards my neck, and then used a razor blade to "layer" the top. He said he did it this way to give me options. Right out of the shower, I could dry it, pat it down and it would look like a normal haircut. But if I wanted a little more 'style,' I could rub a little hairgel into it and pull up. The different layers give an added 'texture' as he puts it.
So far it works pretty well, and I think I look okay with it. It also got the girlfriend seal of approval, which is an absolute must. I'm not big into the whole hairgel stuff, but I think it might actually look better with it. 3/25/2007 8:30:16 AM |

thats how i used to get my hair done until the guy i was going to convinced me to just do scissor cut. for me, the same style with scissor-cut instead of the clippers looks more fleshed out and professional. i generally just gel the front up for my new-fav "douchebag hair" and then leave it flat as it grows out.
basically, having it scissor cut all over also prevents it from having odd/different lengths on different parts of your head as it grows out. ppl with buzzed or clippered hair sometimes get those flaps on the top/side of their head when it grows out so it isnt as smooth of a morph from short to medium length hair (which i like since i usually only get my hair cut once every two months, so i go from short douche to longer shaggy). 3/25/2007 9:44:10 AM |

I just got my hair cut.....my bald spot on the top is way noticable short.... oh well....weird how in the front looks fine, then bottom back is nice a thick, just the top.....oh well, one day when I can afford it I will do the hair replacement thing(take some hair from the thick back portion and put on top) Probably will not though, I will just go natural! 3/25/2007 4:33:27 PM |
