I purchased an HDTV ~3 weeks ago, I already had Direct TV, and I purchased an over the air amplified HD Tuner about 3 weeks ago as well.

When I am watching DirectTV, I never have a problem, ever.

But sometimes (it's happened ~3 times in the past month) when I am watching HDTV through the tuners, the screen locks up, and I mean COMPLETELY LOCKS UP. The picture freezes. This past weekend, a golf ball froze in mid flight. You can't even turn the power off on the TV, you have turn of the power on the back.

I called Best Buy, and they think that it has to do with the OTA Tuner that I purchased and not the TV. They said I can come in and replace it, which I will do. Has anyone else ever had or heard of a problem like this? Again, it never happens when I watch direct TV, only when I use the tuner.

HELP!

You can't bttt your old thread? Or maybe the long running other thread I pointed out the first time you had to make your own thread?

Try searching avsforums to see if your particular model is known to have trouble. If not, it's something else.

I had this problem with my HDTV Tuner from the cable company, now that I have a different tuner I have had no problems. I doubt it is your TV.

the actual tuner/box from the cable co. would be the first place to start.

You could have a BIOS issue as well with the TV. Does your TV have a USB port for BIOS upgrades? If so, check the manufacturer website for BIOS upgrades and affected resolutions.

ok...update here.

IT ONLY HAPPENS ON CHANNEL 17.1 (NBCHD)

WTF? This has to be from the antenna, right?

I had the same problem. I went through 3 cable guys to get it fixed. The final guy said my cable connection in the wall wasn't good. He said that they juiced up the signal a few months ago and certain channels that "piggyback" on other signals would sometimes screw up. All he ended up doing was replacing the male part of the cable cord (the little prong that comes out). worked perfectly since.

I called the manufacturer.

They basically said that anytime there is a sudden drop in signal, the entire system locks up and you have to power off manually (flip the switch on the power surge cord, not the TV) in order for it to come on again. He basically said it was a security device.

He also said because it was specifically with one channel and I was having no problems with the DirectTV, it was a problem with the signal of that specific station, not an issue with the built in HD Tuner. He reccomended that I purchase a signal booster.

Does anyone else have one of these?
