I'm interested in building one one day, but I'd like to look at some examples and see how well they're holding up. 2/21/2007 4:03:33 PM |

I've never heard of a cob house until you mentioned it. So, it prompted some perusing on the web - they look very interesting.... and I'm guessing there's some advantages to using this building material.
this one's of a house in NC...
here's a nice website of cob houses: http://www.chicobco.com/ 2/21/2007 8:29:47 PM |

^ ^ Yeah, the advantages are it's cheap as dirt (literally LOLLOOL) and you can do it yourself. It takes a while, though.
I might just go look at some next time I go back to Asheville; there's a good amount of them out thar. 2/22/2007 9:10:38 AM |

fuck that, i will gladly spend a lot more money to live in a nice house rather than some place that looks like king kong took a dump and someone molded a house out of it 2/22/2007 9:13:02 AM |

yeah i have seen them out in the cali area, at least it looked like them from the outside and they are usually the run down parts of town that arent worth a shit (all relative cause "not worth a shit" out there is like 500K)
I am sure there are some really nice ones out there, but they sure as hell aint dirt cheap as you say... you get what you pay for
i still stand by my previous statement
brick house >>>>>>>> cobb house
as stated above i would rather drive a sub par car and all and live in a nice house 2/22/2007 9:38:49 AM |

True, you have to be more careful building with it and protecting it from water.
There are some nice ones in England that have been standing for > 500 years, but there are also much more recent ones that fall apart due to shoddy construction. 2/22/2007 9:45:35 AM |
