Get well Sid, I'd like to believe there was a correlation between our total collapse and Sid's. Either way we need him pretty bad to keep things running so smoothly. Poor Towe was not quite ready for the hot seat. 2/21/2007 11:48:33 PM |

Sidney is the fucking man... I hope he's ok, and of course he probably will be, but I hope he doesn't feel responsible or guilty... and of course we all know he has no need to feel that way... but sometimes people still play the blame game on themselves 2/21/2007 11:48:56 PM |

Yeah, I don't think this in any way reflects poorly on Towe... imagine even the level of distraction that seeing the HEAD coach being carted off would create... and then turn around and try to hold the world together in front of 19K Carolina fans. I'm proud of the effort. 2/21/2007 11:50:50 PM |

i hate to sound like an ass--and it will be interpreted as so here...
but take any team who loses their coach at halftime and see if they play the same in the second half
and after hearing monte towe's post game interview...it's pretty clear he didn't know what to do and the players weren't told all that much...that just spells disaster

I think Towe MAY have been in over his head a bit (his big rival at U of NO was UL-Lafayette, the team we beat in the '04 tournament); if he had to do this against any other team, I think he would've fared better. 2/22/2007 12:04:16 AM |

true. but for some teams, it's much more important for the head coach to be on the sidelines for any particular game.
for a team like ours where we essentially have 5 players (not counting the two almost worthless players off the bench), it's important for our head coach to be on the sidelines for every game.
for a team like unc that has almost 10 guys that could start somewhere else, the head coach on the sidelines isn't quite as important for any singular game.
a little bit of difference in that regard2/22/2007 1:07:46 AM |

You could probably drop by the Dail Basketball Facility and ask them to give Coach Lowe a get well card for you. The Case Athletic Center may also work too. I'm not sure if they moved the basketball coaches' offices out of the Case Center to the new basketball facility or not. It would be a nice sign for 1000's of "Get Well Soon" cards to show up for Coach Lowe and show him some support, as well as "Thank You" cards to the entire coaching staff for trying their best to provide continuity to the team after Lowe went down.
Man we seriously need a research hospital on Centennial Campus considering how often our coaches get sick. Valvano, Yow, Lowe, and probably some others? Dean seems to have been able to live a long and healthy life. Maybe it's b/c of the great healthcare he receives at the UNC Hospital. 2/22/2007 1:48:55 AM |

^^^ hmm. maybe poor taste, maybe.
although to talk about it seriously, a research hospital would be legit, except i'd hate to look like we're just trying to mimic duke/unc. unless it was the most baller hospital ever, and no one ever went to their hospitals anymore b/c ours was awesome. i'd be for that. 2/22/2007 1:53:11 AM |

It'd be hot too, b/c we could have our Biochemistry, Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, and Microbiology departments work closely with it. We already do a bunch of research that applies to medicine anyways. Throw in the Psychology Department to develop a psychiatric ward, the Chemistry Department to improve some of the important chemicals used in medicine, and the Physics Department to develop more baller ass machines used in healthcare and we'd be one helluva research hospital. Did you know that there are only two schools in North Carolina (NCSU & WFU) that have Microbiology majors. A representative of a pharmaceutical company that I may end up working for said that it was hard for them to find people that majored in Microbiology in NC b/c of this. They often times have to settle for Biology majors that only had to take a basic Microbiology course while in college. I found that surprising. 2/22/2007 2:05:22 AM |

of course we did, but no one's really going to fault us for it
this game will be remembered as the game Sidney Lowe got sick, not the game where UNC got revenge and beat the shit out of us again and won by 20 points
if Sidney was really badass he would have attempted to get thrown out of the game before halftime. i'm not saying he should have, but that would have been pretty cool and the players may have focused better the second half.
and it doesn't really seem like it's all that serious, he probably just caught the norovirus or something and everyone is blowing it up b/c its Sidney Lowe2/22/2007 8:07:03 AM |

Lowe should know that he really means something to the fans and this area in general since on WRAL he is the #2 story below the president, and he is way above the article on UNC winning

When did I say that they were the ones that would be practicing medicine. I said that all of those departments could help in research, not in practicing medicine. Go to UNC's hospital try to not find a Microbiology lab over there and then report back.
The Microbiology dept. could study some infectious diseases or help conduct classes for doctors that want to become Immunologist.
The Genetics dept. could help conduct case studies on patients with genetic disorders.
The Biochem dept. could maybe do research on conditions with protein deficiencies.
The Biomedical Engineering dept. could work closely with amputees in developing more comfortable prosthetics.
