My series rover has developed a rather nasty transmission leak, to the tune of several ounces of gear oil a day (which is more than I'm comfortable with). I was wondering if anyone would like to help me ascertain the source of the leak. I have a suspicion that perhaps the drain plug got cross threaded or the grooves are just worn, and perhaps using teflon tape or some other material might help seal these gaps. It could be I am flat wrong and theres a gap somewhere else. Either way, I need your help and defer to the knowledge of the garage gods. I can throw some money/wings/beer your way for your effort.

specifically find where it is leaking first, shouldn't be that hard. only way to learn is to try. 2/28/2007 1:17:13 PM |

Well, I was fooling around with it yesterday. I was hoping maybe Joel will want to jump on this, although hes probably still tired from doing my light install. Any one have any other recommendations if it is the bolt? There always seems to be something I havent thought of. 2/28/2007 2:20:52 PM |

I might ad that I pulled the drain plug yesterday and put it back in to see if it was cross threaded. Im glad I had the drain pan there. Since putting that back in and refilling did not stop the leak, thats why I might try again with Teflon tape. But I would like an objective second set of eyes on it. 2/28/2007 2:36:18 PM |

well youll if its real nasty under there youll probably need to clean it up well before we can figure it out. hit the pay car wash and stick the wand up there and blast it real well. 2/28/2007 5:06:50 PM |
