ok then....answer your own thread....what do you suggest we do? Overthrow him? All the cool countries in the world are overthrowing their leaders, so we wouldnt be cool unless we revolt against ours......then we could fit in with the rest of the world!

^^don't u guys brag about your system of government and how it puts the power in the peoples hands? should be a fairly simple process...if the majority is unhappy with the president...impeach him. OR don't vote for him twice in a row

You do what's going on now: minimize his ability to rule. The Democratic Congress will find plenty of ways to neuter him, and his own party is already starting to turn against him and focus on the 2008 Presidential election.

as opposed to that great system of government you have in Egypt.

Right now, according to the constitution, bush hasn't done anything worthy of impeachment. and the people didn't vote for him twice in a row. they voted for him once.

and we've already done one thing, we've elected a democratic congress.

not to open this can of worms again, but i'm sure if proper and thorough investigations were done in our lead up to war, some criminal negligence could be found

and charge him with what? people not liking him?

but yeah, it's a testament to the lunacy and ineptitude of the Democratic Party that a President with such overwhelming unpopularity managed to get elected to a second term.

I voted Badnarik, secure and comforted by the knowledge that he had absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning anything.

concur

except that I'm amazed (and simultaneously impressed and disappointed) at how little the Democratic Congress has opposed him.

You're equating his overwhelming lack of popularity since, oh, 2005-ish, back to 2004 as an example of how the Dem Party is inept? Thats...just...dumb.

Like it or not...

1) More people voted for him than any other candidate (you can argue this but the fact is he won)
2) What possible good would come to overthrowing someone which would cause economic turmoil, loss of leadership and law and general chaos for about 10 years (like in every country where they overthrew. They are constantly in a state of civil war). Or you can wait 2 more years
3) When Bush was elected the other options weren't that good either. Anyone that says Kerry was great obviouslly didn't watch the election to see why Kerry Lost. Kerry lost because he wouldn't just come out and say how he was going to accomplish his goals. All he said was how bad Bush's ideas were. Plus his background was highly questionable.

As a note: I didn't vote for either presidential candidate. My reason? I didn't like either and had no preference what so ever so used my right not to vote for either.

But in retrospect, we wouldn't be in the quagmire we are in right now.

I hear entirely too many people (on tv shows, on the radio) that think Bush doing what he says and "sticking to his guns" is some sort of a virtue. Thats all well and good assuming his is open minded about it, listens to what experts are telling him, decides on a best course of action, AND then sticks to his guns. But it's pretty clear he doesn't listen to anyone around him.

^^Dont say he won because he got more votes. That opens up a can of nasty giant worms.

Also, Kerry lost because he is a giant fucking douchebag. Dont excuse him by saying he didnt give us a plan.

There's a lot of anger at this administration - some of it is warranted, some of it isn't. Bush hasn't done anything to deserve impeachment. People are constantly accusing him of unconstitutional policies, when they really have no idea what the constitution says about the subject, or what powers the president has.

Personally, I don't think it's worth trying to impeach Bush at this point. By the time you go through the entire investigation and spectacle, it'll already be time for the 2008 elections. Why waste the time and effort to make a spiteful strike back before a tired and weary electorate when instead, you could simply talk about the future and what you and your party will do to make the world a better place (and thus, why they should elect you and your party next year)?

Besides, do you really want to bring forth President Dick Cheney, even if only for a short period of time?

I guess you must think first terms are decided by the supreme court and second terms are by the people

the people still voted for him but because of florida other measures had to be taken.

the only reason i support people bringing up Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004 is because I would like to see Diebold out of the voting business and would like to see Harris and Blackwell put behind bars.

Other than that it is uesless to put shit up like "reelect Gore". its so childish.

Right, but the popular vote has nothing to do with who is elected; that's the law. If you have a problem with the law, that's one thing, but we can just go around changing things without going through the right channels. You're basically saying that since Bush won Florida by a small margin (if even that), we should just ignore it and assume that Gore won.

where did i say that?

oh, right. i didn't.

what i will say, is that nobody knows who won the florida electoral votes in
2000. all we do know, is that shenannigans were being pulled at the highest
levels of florida government, and the US Supreme Court shut down the process
before it was completed, then awarded the electoral votes in a 5-4 decision
along party lines.

so go ahead and call that a decisive victory, whatever. thats fine. i'm over it.

what interests me is how 2006 was the turning point that will be followed up in
2 years when democrats will hold the executive and congress.]

and you GOP loyalists can thank Bush/Cheney.

I'm not saying it's a decisive victory, but if you listened to most liberals, you would think there was concrete proof that Gore won, when there isn't. If you want to say, "we don't know who won," then say that, but there's plenty of people (not you, necessarily) that would say Gore won the 2000 election.

and if a dem president comes to power, they'll be neutered too.
the Republican party isn't going to be worried about Bush anyways, he can't be re-elected, again, so why focus on him to begin with?

one thing that people need to keep in mind... and this is for democratic or republican presidents, not everything is the president's fault or in their control. a lot of things are, can, and will be, but not as many as your run of the mill media or opposing political parties will make it seem.
