According to a friend of mine at Carolina, there are rumors going around that Tywon Lawson could be suspended or kicked off the team indefinitely for some unnamed violation - he has a pretty good source... it's all over the UNC and Duke message boards - and on insidecarolina, seven threads have already been locked about it

obviously it all could be bs, but it sure would make things interesting if it wasn't - i guess we'll know something tonight

A moderator over at IC called the UNC althletic department where they said that there was no reason why Lawson should not be playing tonight. So if the rumors are not complete BS, then it is doubtful that anything else will be learned before game time.

What I do know is that Roy Williams has a pretty strict no-tolerance policy for his players and recruits violating team rules/regulations/etcetera

he dumped jameson curry as a recruit the second he found out he was involved with his marijuana situation, and now curry is doing very well out in stillwater

the point is, i don't think williams would hesitate (too much) to pull the trigger on something like this

You have a source... that said it was for an unnamed violation... and then you say he wouldn't hesistate to pull the trigger on something like this... without having the first clue of what happened.

YAY for internet rumors!

dude, don't be a jackass

i mean the source is one of the managers of the JV team over there, so that's why I didn't dismiss it completely at first - and then upon looking into it, there's all sorts of rumors flying around all over the place, and it obviously could be bullshit, like i said it could be - and hell, probably is

i mean stuff like this is the raison d'etre of most sports related message boards in general, so that's what we do, we talk about it

He got suspended for a couple of games his senior year at Oak Hill, because myself and some friends go watch Oak Hill games occasionally. We went one time when they were playing some school from Fayetteville or something, and sure enough, he was suspended.

They almost lost that game also.

I don't know what that was for though.

I doubt this is anything.

He probably missed practice and Roy will make him sit out 10 minutes of the first half or something.

so no offical reason why he was held out of the game tonight?

Any news about against Duke?

Is there a way for both of them to loose?

I guess go duke by default

I mean, he played, just didn't start, as I predicted.

95% he starts the duke game.

Roy said he "had a terrible practice," but he probably broke a minor team rule or was late/missed practice and lost his start, and Roy is keeping it in house.

I'll say go duke this time. I always pull for the away team between them, so I can see the sad expressions of the crowd.

It wasn't like they had much of a choice, he had multiple felonies and i don't think that any school with any kinda of morals would take him. thats why ok state took him

??? I thought he was CHARGED with a felony (sort of like Shelden Williams), but wasn't convicted (though I think ALL charges against Shelden were dropped and Curry still had a few misdemeanors).

In any case, I don't have a problem with a school giving a second chance to players. Georgetown with AI, UConn with Caron Butler, and OK State with Curry. Those players have taken full advantage of their opportunity. Hell, Butler was a cokehead in high school and turned himself around to the point he is one of bright spots off the court of the NBA and will have his college degree in less than a year..

.... and I knew this thread was bullshit regardless. Things that 'break' on the Internet are rarely, if ever, correct... no matter how many 'sources' some random has..

V Duke is a terrible match for UNC. They lose to crazy athletic teams like VT, UMd, or GT but not to slow, prodding unathletic teams like Duke. They'll be a final four team still imo..

my two cents on this:

whatever, doesnt matter because they are going to lose to Duke, in the first round of the ACC

get a 3 or 4 seed and get blown out by a midmajor in the first or second round of the big dance

then everyone can declare for the draft

it was a pretty disgusting scene...I drive that stretch of 75 to go to work (opposite direction from accident). I hadn't heard about it until I was in my car on the road. at first all they were reporting was a college team bus had crashed - made me think something happened to UNC on the way back last night. They had about 10 miles of the interstate southbound shut down completely. it was a creepy thing to see this bus in the highway and cops at the overpass where it flew off.

As others have noted, he def considered keeping him at first.

Also, you mentioned marijuana but he was also charged with selling cocaine

I would think every coach would "think" about keeping a recruit like Currry but depending on the program they would ultimately let him walk

Roy is the one that contacted OSU about Curry to help him get another chance somewhere else

he wouldnt have been able to get away from it staying in NC, i hope the guy keeps his act straight

No. And if he was initially charged with it, nothing ever came of it.

"Inside it, Curry found a handwritten letter on Tar Heel stationary bearing the signature of none other than North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams, who had revoked Curry's basketball scholarship after he pled guilty to six felony drug counts in April 2004 for selling marijuana to an undercover police officer posing as a student at Eastern Alamance High School."

I was, however, admittedly off on the situation leading up to Curry's dismissal
[link]http://media.http://www.dailytarheel.com/media/storage/paper885/news/2004/04/08/Sports/Curry.Denied.Spot.On.Roster-1358825.shtml[/link/

""This has been a very difficult time for JamesOn and his family and also for our basketball program," said UNC coach Roy Williams in a statement. "He is a nice young man, but one who made some very serious mistakes. We felt we needed to let the legal process take place over the last few months, and now it has.""

Once they figured out that the damage to the reputation of school's recruiting policy would be too great, they let him go - I imagine he probably would've had a very tough road to hoe playing in North Carolina as well. I still think if you even consider that Roy Williams would've seriously kept him on long-term once he realized the aforementioned implications of the whole ordeal, you're nuts. I think he let the process run with options open as long as possible as a favor to JamesOn, with the 1 in ___ outside possibility that the whole thing would blow over and Curry would be cleared - as has been mentioned in this thread, Williams was the one who put in the call to Sutton and Co. at Oklahoma State to get James a fresh start.

hmmm

There was definitely cocaine involved.

I cant remember the exact details.

Maybe they were in the plea or maybe he jsut never got charged but i know he was definitely selling coke. I mean think about it, its Mebane for gods sake.
