I snore pretty badly I think - so I had a sleep apnea test done and the only thing that they could come up with is that I should get my tonsils taken out

well to test for Apnea you need to have a sleep study done. Easiest way to know if you might have it though is to ask your sleeping partner if you ever stop breathing while you sleep. if you do talk to your doctor. They will set up the study. Mine was done at Rex. They hook electrodes to everything but your balls and then they allow you to sleep half the night like you normally would and then come in and hook up a C-pap/bi-pap machine and see if it helps you out. The machine forces air inside of you to keep your throat open so it doesn't close at night while you sleep. the machine takes some gettin use to but its the best thing ever. You dont feel tired anymore and I can remember shit now.

The c-pap machine is WAAAAYYYY better than listening to someone snore and periodically gasp for breath all night. It's just a subtle sound, kind of like a quiet vaporizer.

My mom and I both have sleep apnea

Buy an assload of pillows and prop your torso up to sleep at about a 30-45 degree angle. Not enough to be sitting somewhat upright, but not flat at all. Its comfortable and you would be surprised at how well it works.

One of my very good friends had a horrendous case of sleep apnea. He was always tired, would frequently fall asleep sitting up when he came to visit, and his start, stop, gasp snoring was the worst thing that I had ever heard. He finally had a sleep study done and they diagnosed him with one of the worst cases of sleep apnea that they have ever seen in someone so young. An ENT took a look at him and decided to remove is enlarged and frequently inflamed tonsils and BOOM! Like magic. No more snoring, no more apnea.

Im suprised how many people here have sleep apnea.

Ive been on my machine for about a month now. I did my sleep study and had an average of 168 events an hour.

Sucked to be me, i would fall asleep while actively driving, now i feel like a champ!

^^at least the most obvious symptom of sleep apnea was taken care of... the snoring. he could still have it and not snore/audibly gasp

I know someone who had his tonsils removed b/c of sleep apnea and he's sorry he didn't do it sooner. Says that now he is more energetic and less lethargic in the mornings.

Dr.Douglas Holmes ENT did his. It was an outpatient surgery- took five days to recover. They'll hook you up and say it's medically necessary so insurance will cover. He could have done the CPAP but didn't want to deal with the machine.
