I am about to buy a VW GTI VR6 from a private seller. What do I need to do as far as forms to fill out/titles/bill of sale/registration/etc.?

you give the money to the seller, you both go to the notarizer and the seller signs over the title to you. You take it to the title registration place and register the title to your name.

well, you should give the money to the seller when both of you are at the notarizer, right when the seller is signing the title over.

Required on vehicles 5 years old or newer; although I really think it used to be required on vehicles 10 years old or newer.

I'd also suggest getting the buyer to sign a bill of sale. I've known a couple of people who gave the buyer the title, but the buyer never took it to the DMV and registered it in their name.
