54th Annual ACC Men's Basketball Tournament

St. Pete Times Forum
Tampa, Florida

The 54th ACC Tournament comes to Florida for the 1st time ever, and for its first time, it is sure to be exciting with as many upsets as there has been this year and additionally how close the ACC has been lately. Maryland is coming in red hot with a 7 game win streak, originally picked to finish #7 in the ACC will come in seeded #5. Preseason favorite North Carolina, even with recent losses will still be seeded #1. NC State better get there early and get ready, they are only 1-7 out of the state of North Carolina this year, and 0-2 in the state of Florida. With all the upsets this year and teams not showing up, who knows just exactly who will show up. Expect a crazy tournament in Florida.

Final ACC Standings & Seedings

#1: North Carolina (25-6, 11-5)
#2: Virginia (20-9, 11-5)
#3: Virginia Tech (20-10, 10-6)
#4: Boston College (19-10, 10-6)
#5: Maryland (24-7, 10-6)
#6: Georgia Tech (20-10, 8-8)
#7: Duke (22-9, 8-8)
#8: Clemson (21-9, 7-9)
#9: Florida State (19-11, 7-9)
#10: NC State (15-14, 5-11)
#11: Wake Forest (14-15, 5-11)
#12: Miami (11-19, 4-12)

Schedule

TV Info:

Thursday's 8/9 (12 Noon), 5/12 (about 2pm), and 6/11 (about 9pm) are only available on Raycom. Presumably (my guess anyway) because of the contract for the play-in game before the ACC expanded, the 7/10 game is only available on ESPN2 (7pm). All of the other Thursday's games are ONLY available on Raycom inside the ACC market. Outside the ACC market, Friday's games are on ESPN2, and Saturday/Sunday's games are on ESPN.

If you are not near a TV, and outside the ACC market you will be able to view all the games at http://www.espn360.com. All the other conference tournament games will also be available.

And thank god, all the games are in HD, finally. (Raycom too.) Yet, I never imagined being able to see the tournament in HD on Raycom and then seeing a game on ESPN2 and not being able to see it in HD. (Thanks TWC.)

First year I haven't been at the tournament in at least 10 years. At least I get to see it in HD and stuff. By the way why does NC State always get shitty seats at the tournament? It's always in the corner or behind the basket, or the endzone (last year). Is it done by seeding? I always thought it was rotated around, but I guess not.

It begins.

true... we CAN beat duke right now, it's just a matter of the players knowing that (im' sure Lowe will drill it into their heads this week, the whole "duke couldn't beat the tarheels" angle)...

It's UVA i'd be worried about... they beat us early in raleigh, and then knocked us around in charlottesville..

vt? well, we know we can beat them, but beating a team 3 times in one season is damned near impossible for anyone but a top-tier team...

maybe im just a downer, but i could realistically see us not winning another game this year.

i don't think we've played with any heart or emotion lately. it just seems like we've given up on the year and everyones just looking to next year.

maybe its just me thats given up on the year though.

Maryland is really hot.....if they weren't playing in the first round, they'd be the pick to win.

Virginia: has the experienced guard play (and a really solid style of play now with leitao), but choked when it had a chance to take sole possession of the 1 spot.

Va tech: an enigma of a team, their success seems to always be determined by matchups. they match up really well with alot of teams, but not with others....their success depends on the matchups they draw.

BC: a solid team with what is probably the acc poy, but they just haven't been the same without sean williams (who was on his way to defensive poy until he was kicked to the curb).

Carowhina: more talent than any other team by far, but they seem to rely on the talent alone wayyy too much, when they come focused they're very hard to beat, if they don't, anyone can take them down (not to mention the fact that roy has repeteadly downplayed the importance of the acc tourney)

NCSU: we all know our stregnths and deficiencies....I'd love to see the magical run, but just don't see it happening. If we beat dook, we should be happy with any outcome after that.

that being said, i'd put my money on Virginia to win it all. I can see maryland and unc beating each other up in the semi's, and Virgina taking advantage of a fairly easy march to the finals.

no way virginia beats duke? I think duke will win that game too but I wouldn't say "no way" about something that's already happened.

with virginia's guard play, they can beat anyone, and who says they'll even have to play dook?

well sure. saying no way miami wins the whole thing would be wrong. theres a chance for everything but chances for some things are smaller than others. don't buy into uva just because they finished first. they played the easiest acc schedule and clemson by 1 ncstate and premaryland are the only games they've won away from home ALL SEASON.

and its gotten worse recently. their last games away from home

vt-lost by 30
miami- lost by 8
wake - lost by 6

^but show me an acc team this year that doesn't have major question marks. Carolina would be the other front runner for the tourney, but I think they and maryland will play a really tough, draining semi-final game, and VA will be there in the finals to take advantage.......

....anything could happen tho, and that's what make this time of year so interesting.

o ya because mighty uva after they easily get their biggest win away from home of the season against a team they beat on a circus shot won't have a problem breezing by possibly an even tougher matchup on saturday. cakewalk to the championship

and then by the time sunday rolls around unc/marylands 10 guys will be sooooo drained that both of uvas players will have a distinct advantage.

How are the tickets selling in FL?

Eventually, it'll become a money debate...there's no way the ACC can continue to float the Tournament without a guaranteed sellout.

charlotte is most ideal. greensboro would be nice if it was actually a nice city. it also gives the teams around here an advantage. atlanta and dc would be the best but it gives maryland and gt an unfair advantage.

correct, Atlanta is a football dome, not a basketball arena, and the portable sections which is what I was in were awful...but it was cool to see Jordan at my hotel....UNC is likely going to run away with it this year folks. Hansbrough is going to be protected by the officials all weekend, so everyone happy he got clocked need to be aware he's going to be getting 90% of the calls all weekend, especially in the last 8 minutes of every game (which might not be too different than the regular season).
