changes at the ball yard

The blue monster is down and will be rebuilt lower with some form of
screen at the top to maintain height and uniformity of home run calls.
Previously is was impossible to tell if balls hit to center and right
were homers when just over the wall. Now we won't be able to tell for
the whole ballpark. The new jumbo screen will be in the wall and a
smaller message board will be in the right field wall. The rightmost
diamondview section will be a picnic area for groups of 20-200 and
will serve multiple groups at the same game. The back half is
leveled for the picinic area and the front part remains seats for the
lucky picnickees. As a result of the construction for diamondview 2
building the will be no place to watch batting practice this season.
Also 200 grass seats are gone because of the construction.

Yeah, Bulls games are a blast and cheap too. Best entertainment value IMO in the RDU area.

^I second that. I just don't like watching baseball on tv very often, but enjoy going to the Castle, or to Hickory or Kannapolis from time to time. But, usually their food is expensive as shit on a normal night. Hopefully I'll go on a cheap night.

thinkin about going to the game tonight

The ticket prices dont really vary that much between the sideline ($8) the terrace ($7) and the outfield ($6). It's been years and I don't really remember the setup...what's the word on the terrace?

Terrace seats are the 200-level seats in the main grandstand, and are IMHO the best seats there, because the view is better from there than at field level. Either of those are much better than the outfield seats.

thursday is also college night. wear some nc state stuff, and they may ask you to participate in some on-field activity, like sumo wrestling a tarhole or dookie.

as for nearby restaurants, there's one inside the park, but i've never eaten in it. $1 hot dogs and beer is all you really need. if you have to eat at a restaurant though, brightleaf square is a couple of blocks down the street. there are some dank restaurants in there, like chamas.

The best seats are field level right next to third base. It's the heckler's dream!

Tylers Tap room and Mellow Mushroom are good places to go before a Bulls game. I used to go to Satisfactions before they opened up the places across from the stadium. Good comeback to even the weekend series after being down the first 2 games.

Durham Bull Beheaded, Trees, Lines Downed by Winds
High winds photos 4/16/07

Posted: Today at 11:32 a.m.
Updated: 2 minutes ago

Raleigh — High winds knocked down trees, traffic lights and power lines across the Triangle Monday, leaving thousands without power, ripping the head off of a baseball park bull, delaying some airline flights and damaging some homes and cars.

Wind gusts of up to 49 mph were reported in central North Carolina, prompting the National Weather Service to upgrade a wind advisory to a high wind warning across the region.

The Federal Aviation Administration ordered all outbound flights from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to remain on the ground until the wind dies down, RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said. Twelve flights have been canceled, primarily because of the nor'easter that has pummeled the northeast with rain and snow since Sunday.

The famed Snorting Bull that sits atop the left-field wall of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park lost his head to the winds Monday morning. The bull had been at the park since it opened in 1995, promising a free steak to anyone who hit the bull with a homerun ball.

“It was a sad sight to see,” Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said in a statement. “Mother Nature did what some pretty strong ballplayers never could. I hope she doesn’t expect her free steak, though.”

Progress Energy reported 65,000 customers without power in North Carolina, including 11,400 in Wake County. Duke Power reported more than 21,000 customers without power in Durham and Orange counties.

"Our crews are on the scene, and as soon as they can get the trees off the lines, we'll get those lines back up and running," Progress Energy spokeswoman Tanya Evans said. "(But) as the day goes on, more trees fall down, and it starts again."

Much of the University of North Carolina campus was without power Monday morning, and Chapel Hill police closed off several blocks of East Franklin Street to traffic to allow for crews to clear downed trees and repair power lines.

A tree fell on a minivan on Trinity Avenue in Durham. A mother and her 15-month-old child were inside at the time but were unharmed.

A tree fell on a house on Glen Eden Road in Raleigh. No injuries were reported.

A large tree fell across Brookhaven Road, off Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, knocking out power to nearby homes and sparking a minor fire, police said.

A new Honda was reported to be crushed by a tree that fell at Cary Auto Park.

A traffic light was knocked off the line at Capital Boulevard and Interstate 540 in Raleigh, but crews had pushed the mangled light into the median so it wouldn't cause any delays. The state Department of Transportation said no one exiting westbound I-540 at Capital Boulevard will be able to turn left until the light is repaired.

Power lines were down across several intersections across the region, and authorities urged motorists to exercise caution when driving. Intersections without working traffic signals should be treated as four-way stops, authorities said.

RIP

Lost last night 1-0....gave up a homerun in the 5th or 6th and couldn't manage to score for the rest of the game. I want to say that could only pull out 3 hits the entire game. Not looking so good, but hey, they did send 3 players to the bigs this season.
