there was a second book, fwiw. (not to mention a lot of stuff in the first book that never got into the movie)

i remember reading the second book in middle school when it came out. "gump & co" or something like that. it was pretty bad.

Seriously, the first movie turned a half-decent book about a totally unlikeable character into a tearjerker about an everyman. I don't see it happening again considering the source material.

Actually the Second book was called Gump & Co. It was pretty good, if you read both books, it pretty much starts where they left off. Its been a while.

Perhaps he's not, but the movie version of Forrest is designed to be related to by everyone. He's not smart but he gets by, he has a true love, his best friend is black, he serves his country, etc.
