Some of the people in my suite on campus want to move off-campus next year. I like the on-campus housing I am in. What is the appeal of living off-campus?

I loved having a bedroom and bathroom to myself.

a shitload cheaper
your own room/bathroom
a kitchen/den/balcony
no stupid campus rules (alcohol/parties/other random shit)
you can park right next to your apartment w/o buying a pass (also you can have guests who can park)
most places come with a washer/dryer
many apartments offer some ammenities right on site (gym, pool, courts, etc)

I second everything said. Other than location, off-campus is better in every way. So only stay if you really like dorm life or being so close to campus. Or if you can't handle the commute.

Means I'm not constantly surrounded by other people unless I feel like it.

Off campus made holidays & summer sessions alot easier. I didn't have to pack up and leave during holidays or change buildings I'm living over the summer or any of that around the university's schedule.

I felt the same way last year. I didn't really feel any need to get off campus. But now the only thing I miss is the on-campus activities and knowing where all the free things are on campus. Having suitemates and seeing people everywhere is fun too.

Does anyone know which apartments will allow/not allow you to move in with a girlfriend?

i think the law preventing cohabitation was deemed unconsitutional in NC recently. some woman got fired when her boss found out about it and she sued his ass and won. i still think the rental agencies can block you though, so be wary. i could see preiss co pullin some shit on you, but a lot of their apts are 3 & 4 BR anyhow. you could always get a 2 BR and make the landlord believe one of you is gay
