Got into a discussion over Final Fantasy 12... is it the most sequeled game? Mario has a bunch (not including Smash Bros or Kart). I'd consider games like Paper Mario and Mario RPG to count. Does anyone have a tally on Mario games? Should Paper Mario count?

How many Megaman's are there?

I'd post the actual pic, but I don't want to risk getting an error message in case they don't allow hot-linking.

Are you including the X series for the MegaMan count?

There would be 17 MegaMan games (MegaMan 1-8, MegaMan and Bass, MegaMan X1-X8)

I don't know whether or not to include MegaMan X Zero or .exe

Sonic had like 6 games

There are way more than six Sonic games.

Off the top of my head (not including Spinball and Shuffle, etc.): Sonic 1-3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Chaos 1 & 2, Sonic CD, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Sonic Heroes, and the new "Sonic the Hedgehog" on PS3 and 360.

not counting remakes/rereleases:

mario: donkey kong, mario bros arcade, smb 1-3, smb lost levels, mario world, mario land 1&2, donkey kong 94, mario vs donkey kong 1&2, mario 64, sunshine, new smb, paper mario 1&2, mario & luigi 1/2, mario rpg

that's 20 by my count, 15 if you exclude the rpgs

final fantasy: 1-12, X-2, tactics, tactics advance, mystic quest
that's 16

I excluded games released as FF adventure/legends in the US b/c those games are actually part of the mana and saga series. I also excluded the myriad mario sports/kart/etc that arent core mario games.

i'd say that mega man certainly and possibly castlevania have them beaten in # of games in the series.

castlevania really isnt that many in comparison. 1-3 on nes, x and 4 on snes, bloodlines on genesis, 3d and a rerelease of 3d on 64, SOTN on ps, lament on ps2, curse of darkness on xbox/ps2, circle/harmony/aria on gba, sorrow/newest one on ds, couple on the gb before the others.

...alright, more than i thought and im sure im missing a few.

there's also final fantasy 7: dirge of cerberus which should probably count; crystal chronicles, which maybe should be counted; and chocobo's dungeon, which probably shouldn't be counted.

then crisis core and revenant wings are coming up this year, i guess.

If you only count the "core" games (in other words games revolving around platforming and shooting), Mega Man wins this one no contest.

8 Mega Man
8 Mega Man X games
6 Mega Man games on the GB (basically slightly remixed versions of the NES games tho)
Mega Man Xtreme 1&2 on the GBC
4 Mega Man Zero games
Mega Man ZX
Mega Man Legends 1&2
Mega Man Network Transmission

That's 32 games not counting spinoffs in other genres like Mega Man soccer and the Battle Network games

^if you include spinoffs then Mario has got a shit load more too.

There's already been like 8 Mario Party, a couple Kart, Tennis, Wario World, Yoshi's game, luigi mansion, etc, etc etc

i mean, even including expansion packs and rereleases you're only at 16.

[Edited on March 11, 2007 at 9:47 PM. Reason : eq's coming pretty close if you wanna go expansion pack route. its over 20 between the 2 i think]
