I started my seeds already

if anyone wants to get some cataloupe, pepper(cayenne, jalapeno, bell, banana), or tomato(roma and standard "beefmaster" sandwich type) seedlings let me know, I'll have plenty

I have them all planted in peat cups, I can probably give 4 plants for 2.50 or so

I'll plant the rest of my garden in a couple weeks

If container gardening counts...

1) Have 1 big pot of tulips outside waiting to bloom

2) got 2 strawberry jars (10 plants) in my sun room waiting to go outside, (i think one jar will die out)

3) Have a pot of bulbs that my gf thought were pretty, never grown any of them before, some have pushed up through the soil, it could be intresting

4) a bunch of seeds waiting for the frost free date....which might as well be tomorrow....wooo global warming

yeah, you can grow all kinds of things in a hanging basket

tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupe, even squash, and watermelons

tomatoes grow very well in pots you just have to keep them watered. (like 2x a day)

in your case I would just go to the local farmers market or to lowes/home depot/wally world and buy one or two and some hanging baskets

make sure you get a "bush type"... they are more compatable to container gardening

I cleaned out three flower beds and planted a bunch of daylillies last weekend. This weekend I cleared shit out with the chainsaw and some clippers.

Anyone got any recommendations for stuff that is easy to grow and comes back every year?

I cleared out our flower bed and planted some bulbs

supposedly you're supposed to plant them after the last frost, but whatever. survival of the fittest, I say.

I'm not much on perennial green things, I like color in my garden

daffodils, lillies, amarylillis, tulips.... most of those come back every year and multiply

buy 2x the number of bulbs that you need, make a "flower bed" if you have the room, plant 1/2 of the bulbs in it in rows, then plant the other 1/2 where you want them...

PS don't plan them in lines, they do (and look) much better in clumps, circles, and squares

the bulbs will multiply in both places, use the bed to plant things and let things multiply (and you'll know what bulbs are where because you labeled them in your bed)

nick, the daffodils should be fine yo

[Edited on March 11, 2007 at 8:41 PM. Reason : logan trading co has 75% off bulbs right now]

I've always wanted a little stand at the farmers market

hopefully my raspberries will do well this year

and my scuppernongs and muscadines will start producing (this is year 3 since I transplanted them from the container I started the seeds in)

I've got a thousand or so japanese maple seeds in the fridge right now too

I found a little snake while working in the yard today. I thought about keeping it, but I'm too lazy to have something else depend on me to live so I let it go.

I'll get some of those next time I go to home depot. I'm looking for stuff that I can plant and forget for the most part.

Someone gave me habanero seeds as a gift yesterday. I don't think I've ever actually eaten a habanero before.

how difficult would it be to start/set up a small herb thing in an apartment? (wolf village, so no balcony, etc). i was thinking about getting one of those strawberry plant pots, but i sorta want something not so big/bulky. could i do some different herbs in small pots, and put them right by the window?

i know, it's a stretch, but i <3 fresh herbs when cooking.

I do that and it works pretty well. Just make sure the window gets plenty of sunlight.

When I was little our entire back field was a garden with every vegetable you could imagine, pear/peach/apple trees...over 100 pine trees, dogwood trees, azealas... and then everything got ruined by hurricane fran

We have since then replanted trees/bushes, but they're growing so slow

and now we just grow tomatoes and watermelons...

I have to move a bunch of full grown bushes in my back yard. I'm not sure when I'm going to do this, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna put it off for as long as possible.

that isn't a big deal really

the main issue is not mixing your SE, SU, SH2 types with each other

space them out by at least 100' or 3 weeks planting time
