OK, I know there's about a million I-pod threads, but I didn't feel like going through all of them. I'm thinking about getting an I-pod Nano 2nd Gen for my b-day and I was just wondering, can I-pods play non-ITunes downloads? I have a ton of mp3s from free download sites already on my computer and just wanted to transfer these onto it. I know it's a stupid question, but is this possible?

what if you have two ipods, one 20Gb and one 8Gb, and have more than 8Gb on the 20 GB Ipod, how does that all work with Itunes with regards to teh 8Gb Ipod?

Well it will fill up as much as it can, but the easiest way to handle it is to uncheck the songs you don't want on the smaller one in iTunes, and then set it to only sync to checked songs (that's what I did so my girlfriend could put all her music on my computer but I wouldn't have to have that crap on my iPod).

you can manage each ipod's settings independently. on the 8GB, just select certain playlists or tell it to fill up randomly

^ well figured that one out...Does anyone know why the earleir Ipods gave you Docks and now they just give you the firewire? Is their a difference between using dock and the firewire to your computer?

^^ the wire/cable is not called "a firewire".
Firewire is a type of interface, just like USB. Early iPods had firewire cables. New ipods have USB cables.

So it still doesn't matter which you use, you can sync/charge a new iPOD with either firewire or an old Ipod with usb?

No, new iPods (generation 5 for standard iPods) only work with USB. They removed Firewire support because the chipset took up too much space, and this way they could make them smaller. Nothing has changed with the USB cables so yes you could use a USB cable from an old iPod with a new one.
