"Opening Statement:
Today is all about learning, and working on fundamentals and trying to implement the base offense and the base defense.

That's about the best thing you can do... there is a lot of wheels spinning out there. What may have been called apples last year is oranges right now.

The faster they can learn, the faster they can play and that's what it is all about... playing fast.

I imagine you don't have a clue as to what your depth chart looks like.
Well we don't have a depth chart. We've been switching a lot of guys around... we have an organizational chart. We're just trying to get them lined up... when you switch guys, maybe some that ran with the first team today will run with the third team on Friday. We'll just keep switching guys around.

How did you set up your organizational chart?
We started with seniors... they moved to the top, and then we kind of did underclassmen. Where there aren't seniors, we kind of went with guys who played last year.

Everybody is getting a lot of reps so it really doesn't matter right now.

What kind of message do you want to deliver?
We're going to get better each and everyday. We're going to get better each and every drill. That's the object, just to get better. They learned a lot today hopefully and we'll take something from this practice. We'll go look at the tapes and try to learn from the tapes and make sure that we're fundamentally sound in what we're doing.

You seemed to spend more time with the offensive line.
I get lost if I get too far away from them. I go back and try to look at those guys... it's nothing. I try to get to everybody.

How much of a learning process is this for you?
It's a lot for us. It's the same thing. We have to figure out what they can do and what they do best. The idea is to put them in a position to win. In order to do that, we've got to figure out their strengths and their weaknesses also.

Thoughts on Marcus Stone at tight end:
He did a little of that last year. One thing we decided, that's one area we looked at on tape and decided that we would go with the three younger kids... Evans, Burke, and Beck at quarterback. Those three kids... to see how they are. "

Interesting article about QB battles this spring.

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/6613088

Here's what they said about State:

Quote :
"20. N.C. State: Marcus Stone began 2006 as the starter, but he's now a tight end, leaving junior Daniel Evans, sophomore Harrison Beck and redshirt freshman Justin Burke to battle it out to see who'll be Tom O'Brien's first quarterback in Raleigh. Evans looked like the future for the Pack after engineering upsets of O'Brien's Eagles and Florida State, but regressed badly down the stretch. While he doesn't have a cannon, his maturity and leadership skills could be a nice match with Dana Bible and the basic pro-style offense. Remember Beck? He was the original Mitch Mustain, whose quick exit from Nebraska was accompanied by some ridiculously inane comments from his mom. Assuming he's matured, Beck has the best skill set of any State quarterback, and is someone the program can build around for the next three years. Burke will likely open at third string, but should not be taken lightly. The former record-setting quarterback from Kentucky was one of the most coveted pocket passer of the Class of 2006.
Prediction: Beck

"In Friday's scrimmage, which was closed, Evans held the hottest hand, completing 11 of 14 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Beck went 10-for-17 for 199 yards, two TDs and two interceptions. Burke hit on 6 of 16 attempts for 46 yards and had two picked off."

Hmmm, did we get another couple of overhyped QBs?

^No our defense is just that good.

Quote :
"The running attack featured Toney Baker (98 yards on 13 carries) and Eugene (89 on 13), whose toughness impressed O'Brien."

They said Darrell Davis caught some passes. Isn't this a mistake for Blackman? I thought Davis quit football and played for the basketball team the last half of the season
