My E815 will no longer charge without putting some serious pressure on the contact points. Verizon technician said he can not fix it. I am one month outside of my warranty so I can either pay for a replacement E815 for $50 or buy a new phone. I don't know which path to take given the current phone market. I was told I would not have any new warranty on the replacement... wtf?

Oddly... the E815 is praised for signal strength but that is the one area where mine always failed miserably. I never really hear complaints from others... but my problem is that I am unsure if I should pay the $50 and get the E815 replaced or search for a new phone. I reaaaaaaaaally do not keep up with the new cell phone releases or what is a good value... but if I can get a decent phone for $75-100 or less and activate it... I'd prefer to just do that.

I don't really use any features on my cell other than speakerphone, contact lists, alarm settings.. and.. talking. I prefer non-flip phones (I like the design of the Motorola L6/L7 models for example)... but it doesn't truly matter so long as the thing works... so with that said, can any cell phone experts want to offer a suggestion on what I should do? I'll be making my decision this weekend.

For your usage, I'd recommend a Nokia 6xxx series (like the 6015). Solid phones, built like a tank, and fairly simple. If you just want a good, sturdy phone these are the way to go. I'm not a fan of Verizon, mainly because of their crappy firmware and billing practices, but if you have to stick with them I'd stay away from the Razr, Krzr, and Chocolate. You could probably find a good unlocked phone on eBay or craigslist for around $50 if you don't mind getting one that is a generation or two old. My wife is on her second Nokia phone in 4 years and won't get anything but them. She throws it in her purse with her keys and other stuff and they withstand the abuse very well.

I'm partial to Sony Ericsson myself, but they only make GSM phones which won't do you any good if you are on Verizon.

yeah I am not a fan of Verizon either but I am sticking with them until the end of the year due to having a free contract until 2008 and it goes month to month for me after that - If I can get a CDMA phone that is decent enough to last through the first part of 2008, I will keep Verizon until I find something I like in the future... if I can find some way to get any sort of warranty for a replaced E815, I may go that route... but otherwise something like the 6015 is probably what I will wind up with... thanks

i love my e815 through verizon. i've never had any problems with it (knock on wood). i even used seem edits to allow the transfer of pictures and ringtones to the phone using a USB cable since that shit is disabled by verizon cause they are thieving bastards. honestly, i would just say spend the $50 and get another 1, esp if u do like it.

I found the best solution.... apparently when my mother joined the family plan I am on, she got an E815 and a second one for free that my father was supposedly using. He activated it, and could not stand it. In order to use the phone at my parents house, you have to go outside to get a signal... he got sick of that quick and reactivated his old phone. SOOO... I'm going to meet him and pick it up today.

I need to look into a method of actually transferring things to this phone via seem edits or other... never bothered with it before but now that this whole topic is on my mind... I may look into that today.

... oh and fuck Verizon

If you take it into the store they should be able to at least copy the #s out for you. I also heard Verizon has some online database that you can back your #s up to and copy them onto a new phone when you get one.

I called and asked them if they could do that - they said they'd wave any fees to copy all my data if I just took it to the customer service desk and explain.
