Quote : | "At the only hospital in the capital of this tiny West African nation, a 3-year-old AIDS patient named Suleiman receives his daily dose of medication -- a murky brown concoction of seven herbs and spices served out of a bottle that once contained pancake syrup.
The boy is told a spoonful a day will make him better. His mother, Fatuma, takes the same concoction, as do several dozen other AIDS and HIV patients here. Adults take two spoonfuls.
"It's amazing," Fatuma says. "Two weeks ago, I was very ill, weak and couldn't eat without vomiting." Ousman Sow, 54, said he's been HIV-positive since 1996 and had been taking anti-retrovirals for the past fours years until he volunteered for this program.
Four weeks later, he said he's gained 30 pounds and feels like a new person.
"I am cured at this moment," he said.
Asked if he had any HIV symptoms, he responded, "No, I don't. As I stand before you I can honestly tell you I have ceased to have any HIV symptoms."

Quote : | "This has become the treatment for HIV/AIDS patients here since early January, when Gambian President Yahya Jammeh announced he had discovered a cure for the disease that has wreaked havoc across Africa. He made that announcement in front of a group of foreign diplomats, telling them the treatment was revealed to him by his ancestors in a dream.
His concoction has stirred controversy and anger among health officials who say the president's claims will bring false hope to the nation's more than 20,000 HIV/AIDS patients. They are also afraid that it could cause patients to stop taking the anti-retroviral drugs that have been proven to prolong life and improve quality of living.
One critic was Fadzai Gwaradzimba, the U.N. envoy to Gambia. She was abruptly kicked out of the country after saying on February 9 that patients should continue their normal treatment and that Jammeh's concoction be "assessed by an international team of experts."" |

I don't know what you mean by the second part there.
But yeah, that shit isn't going to work. The "evidence" is going to come crashing down soon and people who took it and forwent other treatment are going to die a horrible death even earlier.3/16/2007 9:14:20 PM |

Anything that even slightly helps the symptoms of AIDS or HIV is a good thing in my book
I'm no salisburyboy type conspiracy theorist, but it is kind of interesting to me that Magic Johnson seems to be basically cured from his HIV/AIDS (gained back all his weight and then some) and he also has a good bit of money at his disposal 3/17/2007 1:11:12 AM |

I'm related distantly to a couple of rich, rich people that have AIDS, and have had it (not just HIV) for ten years or so. I saw him recently -- no signs at all. Normal weight, not sickly, very lively. I'm no conspiracy theorist either, but it's hard for me to ignore these rich-ass folks who seem to be plugging right along.

I think it has to be a combination of
-affording the best drugs (consistently) -stable diet -stable lifestyle
things that most rich people can have without struggle. Poorer people have to juggle with these aspects. When you're Magic J, you have all the high quality things at your disposal. But we will find a cure one day.

it's tough to say anything without scientific review. it is not impossible that spices could do something like this, but the possibility of it being true almost negligible.
my gut feeling is that it is muslim propaganda that was putting on a show for this Jeff Koinange guy, who does not have any background in medicine, even in his reporting career. it may even be placebo effect, but i doubt that as well. there is really no hard evidence that can verify anything about this report, except for the fact that the people who criticized the treatment were immediately ostracized, which pretty much sums that it is propaganda.

if you have AIDS, i dont think you could live 10 years and look normal....HIV yes, but AIDS is when you have one foot in the grave. Your rich rich couple must just have HIV, I dont think anyone has lived with full blown AIDS for 10 years and look normal.
and since you rarily see them, i doubt they confide in you if they have HIV or AIDS

I assure you I understand the difference. The guy I'm speaking of got diagnosed some 15 years ago, I'm not sure which, and to my understanding HIV usually becomes AIDS in closer to 10.

no, 50% i think of those that have HIV it will never turns into AIDS. Why it does in some people and not in others is a mystery. Yes, usually, if it hasnt turned into AIDS in 10 years, the likelyhood of it doing so is small...so you just live with HIV the rest of your life and die by getting run over by a bus. 3/18/2007 11:43:13 AM |
