I just put in a new motherboard and I've come across a hitch:

My DVD burner is recognized as a DVD player, but not as a burner. It reads disks fine, but doesn't recognize blank CDs, and media player doesn't recognize any burner on my system.

Help me Dr TWW

Oh, and I've already updated the drives firmware and installed the latest mobo drivers

this might work?

open my computer
right click on the recorder
select proprties
click the hardware tab
write down the firmware recorder name from the drivelist(you need the exact name spaces will be displayed as underscores)
then
click on start
click on run
type regedit and click ok
go to HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VOB\CDRA\Writer
look for your recorder or a similar type
rename that recorder
close regedit
should work now!

That sounds like a good solution, but I can only get as far as HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE

There's no VOB folder in the SOFTWARE folder

Curious... what model is your burner? Check the label on top of the drive. I know it's not likely, but I want to make sure you weren't duped into buying a DVD-ROM with a DVD-RW faceplate slapped on it.

Nah

It burned just fine with the old motherboard.

Meh, I might just use this as an opportunity to get a SATA dvd-rw
