I used to take my dog to the ball fields at Pullen and let him run around, but then I saw a sign that said no dogs on the field, so I didn't go back...

the millbrook exchange park isn't bad. It's pretty large and it's seperated into small and large dog areas. The maintenance isn't the best, but there's no charge to get in, so what can you expect? i would much rather drive out 25mins and get in free (i live in cary) than go to a local itty-bitty "dog park" in cary that charges way too much.

i would recommend going on weekdays though, most weekends there are WAY too many dogs, and there will always be a dumbass who brings an aggressive in-heat dog to get all the others riled up. all-in-all, i like it, i just wish my dog would enjoy it like he should but i'm looking forward to a similiar one being built behind athen's drive HS

^that's what i was gonna say...millbrook isn't bad, but there's an occasional fight b/c an owner brings an aggressive dog or a dog in heat.

there's also a dog park downtown now...in historic mordecai i believe. but i've never been. i tried taking sabrina to dog parks but she does best in small groups of dogs...when there's a lot of dogs around she drools a lot and just stands there becomes real anti-social.

i've heard about the one in downtown. i think it's close to the end of tryon road (i could be wrong) i haven't been there yet, maybe this summer, the wifey and i will go up there. Our dog just stands by our side the whole time afraid...he used to love going every week, but then we didn't go for a month or two and he changed his mind

[Edited on March 20, 2007 at 12:31 PM. Reason : nm, i was wrong about tryon road, here is the website http://www.oakwooddogpark.com/]

yeah millbrook is pretty good I think
I just get irritated with people not watching their dog
if you DO decide to try it on a weekend i would go early like 9 or so when it's not SO crowded

i like the oakwood one downtown. Lots of trees and just as big as millbrook plus alot closer. But ive heard the mosquitos get really bad during the summer.

I take my dogs to Millbrook all the time (if you see both a Scotty and a Bull Terrier there, We're there)

Week days are awesome, go on a Saturday or Sunday morning, but any time after 12 on both Saturday or Sunday is hell.

What exactly is a quixtar person?

millbrook exchange dog park is a really really nice facility. i think people's only complaints regard visitors and their dogs.

this is the first i've heard of the oakwood park... isn't that in the ghetto of raleigh?

yes it is! lol, but the park itself is nice. We don't go there often, because there aren't as many dogs there to play with (well, the times we went - there weren't) Oakwood has a lot of trees and shade, which will be good during the hot months. We'll start going there once the temp. rises. For now, my furkids enjoy Millbrook - there are more dogs, and my Bullie loves to have a variety of dogs to run and chase. (c;

^^ ha i've met the newfie named Bo

i like the oakwood park better.
I used to go to millbrook but like previously said - can't stand the people who don't keep an eye on their animals or bring intact animals in there. and there is usually a psycho little jack russel driving all the other dogs crazy. Or some parent letting their child RUN around. Dogs will chase children that run...

oakwood is nice - never packed. shaded. the dogs there always seem calmer.
A bunch of my previous foster dogs are always there. A lab mix named "Sadie" and a red foxlike dog named "Alice" are 2 that frequent the place.

I have a dogpark in my backyard (4 dogs) so i don't make it out there very often.

shut up, fat ass

.......

hey, what ever became of Schenk Forest? I used to take my dog there all the time, it was way cool everyone let their dogs run around.

right when i moved to seattle (03) NCSU was starting to crack down on offleash dogs.

...

Seattle has 18 dog parks in the metro area. some of them are freaking HUGE. my favorite one near my house has a long walk back to a dog beach on the shore of Lake Washington.

great stuff.

i think thats BS. we were "regulars" there. everyone took care to not leave a mess, and to call out anyone who did.

dogs didnt fuck with wildlife either. what wildlife, anyhow? squirrels?

the thing i remember most, is some old Forestry professor, guy was a real bastard about 70 years old, drove around the park in his truck yelling and cursing at people with dogs.

i heard he kept raising shit about it with Campus police.

Anyone know of any dog parks around Apex/Holly Springs/Fuquay?

The one in Cary we were going to head over to requires distemper shot proof and we can't find the papers. He's had them though... anything that just requires rabies tags?

We take our doggie to the Oakwood one a lot. I've been to the Millbrook one and didn't like it nearly as much. It was a lot larger which meant there were a lot of people not keeping an eye on their dog. It also did not have as many trees as the Oakwood one so it was hotter there. Overall, Oakwood is closer and much better than Millbrook.

Does anyone know when the other one on Lake Wheeler is gonna open?
