Son of N.C. State Coach Charged in UNCG Robbery

The son of North Carolina State basketball coach Sidney Lowe was arrested Tuesday in connection with an armed robbing that ended with the shooting of a Raleigh man.

Police at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro said Sidney R. Lowe, II surrendered to authorities and was charged with eight counts, including felony aiding and abetting attempted armed robbery.

Other charges include possession of a weapon on educational property on both the UNCG campus and the campus of North Carolina A&T University, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the sale and delivery of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and three counts of possession of stolen goods.

Investigators said a search warrant was served on Lowe’s home on Monday in connection with Saturday’s shooting inside Weil Residence Hall. Further investigation revealed additional criminal offenses unrelated the shooting, police said.

Police said UNCG freshman Stephen Cobb was shot in the lower back during an attempted robbery. Brian Patrick Martin, 19, was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with attempted first-degree robbery and related weapons charges. Another person was also charged in connection with the incident.
