I dunno wtf is wrong with these things but the dog that eats cell phones, shoes, plastic, and couches will not even pick up raw hide bones from big lots.
The ones from Food Lion are fine. 3/30/2007 3:08:41 PM |

My dog hates rawhides. She just walks around with them; doesn't matter the flavor or brand. Only thing she eats are marrow bones from petsmart, pig ears, or hooves. 3/30/2007 3:24:20 PM |

hmm maybe i should get some pig ears
The only kind my dog really gets in to are the kind with meat in the middle. She can destroy one in a few hours. They are muy expensive but I have to keep her busy with something or she will eat anything else she can get hold of. 3/30/2007 3:32:26 PM |

my lab only eats rawhide bones if you let the end soak in some water to soften it up some first. After that she'll go to town on it. 3/30/2007 7:05:41 PM |

i can't remember how many, i haven't bought any there in a while. it was a few in a pack though. i got some candy cane shaped ones with red strips wrapped around them there last christmas too.
i would reccomend against pig ears. dogs love them, but all the ones i've ever bought smell like sweaty feet after they've been chewed on.3/30/2007 9:16:01 PM |

raw hides are bad for dogs' digestive tracks anyway. 3/30/2007 9:25:21 PM |

^they're fine if they're made here in america
but you are not supposed to give your dog a raw hide if it was produced overseas, they can kill the dog 3/30/2007 9:34:03 PM |

^^yeah, well so is what mine would be chewing up if she didn't have one around. i tried to get her to use a nylabone, but she preffered other things like my cell phone, rainbows, etc.
she'll destroy anything like a squeak toy, stuffed animal, rope bone, etc. within a matter of minutes.

Rawhides expand and can clog digestive tracts of smaller dogs. It's a toy that needs to be supervised, we don't allow them at the boarding kennel. 3/30/2007 9:41:40 PM |

yeah, i def. don't ever leave one out when i'm not there for fear of her choking on a piece or something.
i don't think she eats much of them anyway though, mostly just tears them up into smaller pieces. 3/30/2007 9:44:18 PM |

That's cool! Definitely watch your dog while chewing on that, or at least have it in your vicinity so you can hear when they begin to choke or whatever.
My dog is 6 pounds so he gets other chewy treats. 3/30/2007 9:51:14 PM |
