yeah, if last night's was a rerun from a couple weeks ago when Bolton was on, then no, Bolton certainly didn't pwn him. It was basically jon: i think democracy should work when there are a number of opinions heard john: no, you're wrong jon: i think the president should hear multiple views john: no, you're wrong. the president should hear what he wants to hear jon: i think that's how a democracy works john: then you don't know what democracy is jon: no, you're wrong. that's what great president's like Lincoln did john: no, you're wrong. you don't know anything about history
then, of course, the next night (maybe on tonight's rerun) Jon calls up the authoritative biographer on Lincoln who confirms what he was saying. of course, she's probably just a pawn of the liberal academic elitists 4/3/2007 11:10:22 PM |

Which is why the Daily Show is getting awesome ratings and making awesome shows with Stewart? I rarely ever watched it with Kilborn because it was boring. 5/8/2007 3:08:32 PM |

^ ditto.
I like john 100x better.
of course i was what 13->15 when Kilborn was on? If you're anywhere near my age... i sorta feel bad for you if you were into political satire at 13.
P.S.

when Kilborne was host (1996-98), the show wasn't about political satire. It was mostly entertainment news and guests. Almost all of Kilborne's guests were movie stars, actors, singers, etc. The show then was not too heavy and generally apolitical. When Stewart took over, it still was geared towards entertainment news for a couple years, and started getting more political and media oriented around the 2000 election.
e.g. guest lists throughout the years - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Daily_Show_guests#List_by_year A random sampling from 1998 (w/ Kilborne) - Jason Priestley, David Boreanaz, Al Franken, Dr. Ruth. Vince Caughn, Jeneane Garofalo, Jerry Springer 1999 (Stewarts first year) - Alec Baldwin, Carmen Electra, Pamela Anderson, David Spade. The first serious political guest I see is in December when Bob Dole was on. Almost all of 2000 was dominated by entertainers as well, except for some election coverage and media guests. Even looking at 2003, it looks like the guests are split with at least 2/3 entertainers and the rest politicians, authors, news people. Since 2005, though, his guests are heavily dominated by politicians and authors.
Of course, i don't even know why we're talking about Kilborne. That sounds like a troll to me - i don't know of anyone who thinks the show was actually better when Kilborne was the host.

he's been on record several times saying that if getting a new, less ridiculous administration means he won't be able to write jokes about them, that's fine with him. He says that 1) there will always be plenty of other people to make fun of (mostly, the media), and 2) even if it's a Democrat or whatever in the whitehouse, they will still act enough like jerks to give him plenty of material, just like Clinton did and the Democrats in Congress are doing.

Yeah, John Stewart is very whiny/girly these days. I was thinking last night someone should pull him aside and tell him to cool it.
His wit and timing used to be spot on though. I guess that's what middle age does to a man.

You guys should check out the documentary "You Laugh But Its True" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1671547/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
It was directed by a NC State grad and guy I have known since elementary school. It's pretty awesome to see the guy come this far and was surprised when I heard he was gonna be replacing John Stewart. Should give you some insight on the guy plus help support a fellow wolfpacker. 3/31/2015 8:26:51 AM |
