In the last two days they've showcased South Park's spoof on Hillary and discussed why it wasn't Obama... and on a lighter note The Daily Show's mocking of Rick Sanchez. It's commonplace these days for the media to referrence Comedy Central. I know this is nothing [new] But I think if you'd gone back in time... say before "Indecision 2000" and told the ppl at Comedy Central that politicians and media would watch and take seriously a poorly animated comedy and a fake cable news show they would have laughed at you. The Daily Show as had candidates announce their run for the presidency on air and I would contend boasts a guest list on par with Larry King or any network show. I would also contend that Comedy Central's editorial commentary (or whatever you want to call it0 through South Park, the Colbert Report, and the Daily Show is as powerful and influential as any paper, or tv show.
I'm not sure whether or not that's a good thing, but I like it. 4/1/2007 4:20:50 PM |

I know there is nothing [new] about this... I just think that's it's becoming so prevalent that Comedy Central is starting to have a "legitimate" voice in the national discourse. 4/1/2007 4:29:15 PM |

I remember way back in 2001ish Jon Stewart had a commercial where he mentioned that some people get their news from the Daily Show. Then he said "Please stop". 4/1/2007 7:04:21 PM |

I remember some stats that said a significant percentage of our demographic got their news from the Daily Show... I also think there were some that said that the Daily Show viewership tends to be more educated and informed than the masses. I think Jon Stewart has gone mainstream despite his best efforts... Or perhaps this is part of the Liberal Jewish Conspiracy! 4/1/2007 7:32:55 PM |

I've always liked South Park. The message that comes from each episode is far more "common sense" than someone never having watched the show would think. The Daily Show is a bit aggressive, in my opinion. 4/5/2007 9:27:44 PM |
