this happened a few days back...if theres already a thread I musta missed it...just figured it was big enough news for a thread...the last time a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police was killed before the other night was like 91-93 or something...a good 10-12 years back at least
So I heard today (cause i hadnt been following too closely) that the guy shot them both in the back of the head...they didnt even draw their guns...thats fucked up...even more fucked up than if had been a shootout, if that makes sense...anyway a tragedy...its all over http://www.charlotte.com if you havent heard
anyway, thought i'd make a thread
heres one of the recent stories http://charlotte.com/109/story/72778.html but there are plenty on charlotte.com

^^but no cops have been shot dead in charlotte in over 10 years
but that is actually a good point...cops shot and killed two people on sunday in charlotte and it hardly made the news...its a double standard in some sense of media coverage, but i dont know the details so i cant really speculate much 4/3/2007 10:27:07 PM |

That's because these two cops were innocently doing their job when they were shot and killed. Many of the people killed by cops are criminals. (Not that they deserve to be shot, but it's not really comparable as far as being newsworthy.)4/3/2007 11:19:53 PM |

obviously no human life is more important than another, although I expected a response like that.
it's not the "importance" of their lives that matters,
it's what they were doing when their lives were taken.
I'm not saying it's right- it's just why the media is all over it. 4/4/2007 1:06:16 AM |

yes...some peoples lives are more important than others. now if either of the deceased died innocently, then justice needs to be handed down. i doubt the cops were up to no good when they were shot in the back of the head. 4/4/2007 1:11:52 AM |

The kid that shot them also had quite the criminal record. He was a repeat offender that probably should have been locked up long ago, but crowded jails are becoming a huge problem.

They shot them because they were a threat to society. That happens alot, sadly. But 2 cops being shot responding to a call and didn't even have the chance to draw their guns (and one had a child on the way).... no wonder the media's all over that. And no cops had been killed in that city in years.4/4/2007 9:50:57 AM |

"Montgomery has accrued an adult police record of several misdemeanors since he was 16 years old. His arrest history includes running from police, resisting arrest and bumping an officer in the chest.
Montgomery had never been charged with a felony as an adult in North Carolina until Sunday."
yeah... wow... look at that record. he should've been locked up for bumping a cop in the chest. he's a regular charles mansion.

i heard the details of the "bumping a cop in the chest" story
basically he was walking down the sidewalk with an open beer...cop saw him...told him to pour it out/throw it away...he stood there and drank the whole thing and threw the can on the ground and then took off...cop chased him...he then ran at the cop and shoved him and the cop grabbed him and basically tackled and arrested him...for some reason i thought that particular story was funny 4/4/2007 2:08:30 PM |
BridgetSPK #1 Sir Purr Fan 31378 Posts user info edit post |
^^Yeah, my initial response was that he should been locked up at one time or another.
And then I thought about it and realized that it was just a bunch of misdemeanors, and that if he really did need to go to prison, they would have sent him to prison.
