you know...the one that is used for car mounted phones and nav units

So basically i want to know what needs to be applied to this input to activate it. im thinking about wiring up a push button switch somewhere to mute the stereo (maybe really rice and have it in the shifter if i can get a black shifter with a slightly recessed center button). i have a sony cdx-m630 and it is a pain in the ass to grab the remote or flip the display over to mute the volume for passenger phone calls or the drive thru

im thinking that this is easy and it either needs +12 or ground (one of the big questions is if the applied voltage is constant or pulsed) on it to activate but i dont want to fuck up the head unit just randomly trying stuff

i have already checked the manual and it didnt tell me anything and i havent found anything on google yet

does anyone know anything about this?

not sure about Sony, but Alpine is pink and when you ground it, it mutes.

i hav e a similar question, how does a dimmer wire works? my aftermarket radio has a dimmer wire but the car harness does not. i tried both grounding it and applying 12v to it and applying 12v implulse to it, none of it made any difference. any words of advise?

with the dimmer wire you need to run a wire from the head unit to anything that is on when you run the parking lights

probably easiest to come off the headlight switch

you can disable that feature in the menu so check that it is on and applying +12 to it should work
