I would have bttt'd one of the threads, but it was too old and the other RAM threads don't pertain to the same question

I'm looking to buy new RAM.
I need some RAM.. one gig, maybe two if the price is right. Can someone find me a good deal on it? I've checked newegg but I dont know shit about the brands of RAM.

Tww please work your magic again. I have 512 right now

okay.. i scanned my computer on http://www.crucial.com

and it said I could only hold these types of RAM:

DDR PC3200
DDR PC2700

with a max of 512mb per slot

wtf man? 512 per slot? seriously? its a 2-3 yr old computer

512MB per slot is not bad. If you have two slots that's a total of 1GB of ram. Most likely you have 256MB in 2 slots. So buy 2 - 512MB sticks and enjoy. The trend of home computers allowing more the 1GB of memory only started about 2-3 years ago, so it seems like you barely missed the boat.

How much did you pay for the computer? $300-$400? Because it seems like you saved money on the frontend only to realize you got molested on the backend.

Crucial usually underestimates the amount of ram that your system can hold. Most likley it can actually hold 2 GB, especially if its 2 years old or so. Post the model #.

Run it on 4allmemory.com and see what they say-it'll be the same suggestions- one of the sites was more specific than the other but I cant remember which.
