from wikipedia:

Quote :
"On his "Imus In The Morning" show on April 5, 2007, he referred to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." He was talking to Sid Rosenberg with Sports Talk on the phone about the Women's NCAA Championship game. Imus started out talking about the Rutgers team as, "some rough girls from Rutgers. They got tattoos," and then went on to call them "some nappy-headed hos." The conversation then went on to compare the game to "the jigaboos versus the wannabes." "

He was only telling the truth and saying what most of America was thinking. I mean hell, have you actually seen the girls on that basketball team? Maybe if they worried more about how they looked, then none of this would be going on.

Im still trying to figure out why the Rutgers basketball team felt they needed to have a press conference today to respond to it. This whole thing is making a big deal out of nothing....cant people find something more important to raise hell about?

his remarks pale in comparison to many shows.

very, very tame.

just the fact that he's going to be a more public figure for sharpton to criticize than say....

kidd chris in philadelphia, whose show is the most openly absurd about race and sexual preferences ive ever heard....

i mean, imus said nappy headed hoes, whatever...

ill count today on my ride home during kidd chris' show the racist/sexist comments.

if sharpton called out kidd chris or one of theo thers that host COMEDY shows of similar nature, you'd have never heard about it.

Imus made a huge mistake with his insensitive comments, but I agree with Konami - it was more sexist than racist.

He called them "nappy-headed hoes." None of those words imply racism, unless Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are implying that black women have cornered the market on sexual promiscuity. In which case, Sharpton and Jackson are the racists.

It's also ironic that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are demanding such severe penalties for Imus's comments that were inappropriate and insensitive when there hasn't been one demand for reciprocity after their comments about the Duke LAX players.

Explain to me how this is a racist comment. I think most of you don't even know the context.
Quote :
"Here's how it went again, this mean discussion among four white men. Imus started it:

"That's some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos," he said.

Bernard McGuirk, his producer: "Some hardcore hos."

Imus: That's some nappy-headed hos there. I'm gonna tell you that now, man, that's some - woo. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, like - kinda like - I don't know.

McGuirk: A Spike Lee thing.

Imus: Yeah.

McGuirk: The Jigaboos vs. the Wannabes - that movie that he had.

Imus: Yeah, it was a tough -

Charles McCord, a co-host: Do The Right Thing.

McGuirk: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Imus: I don't know if I'd have wanted to beat Rutgers or not, but they did, right?

Rosenberg (a guest commentator): It was a tough watch. The more I look at Rutgers, they look exactly like the Toronto Raptors.

Imus: Well, I guess, yeah."

If he was being racist, why did he only call out one of two teams of similar racial background? He was just comparing the appearances of the two teams (ie calling them rough, tough, looking like men). I can see the comment being sexist, and I can even understand that there are racial connotations to being called nappy, but even then i take nappy to just mean that they look like a bum. Too many people are expecting him to be like a news reporter just because he is on MSNBC when in reality he is nothing more than an entertainer. Would the same reaction happen if Dave Chappelle said the same thing?

I never knew "nappy headed" was racist or had anything to do with black people. I've called many white friends of mine nappy headed.. I thought it meant they hadn't combed their hair or it was getting long and needing to be cut....

Opie and Anthony have been talking a lot about this. Opie brought up a good point when he said Imus has "Fuck You" money. He feels that he should apologize and move on, and if anyone still is giving him a problem he should just tell them "Fuck You" and walk away. If he is fired, you can pretty much guarantee that either XM or Sirius would gladly hire him to do their show.

You don't refer to anyone, much less womens basketball players, as "nappy-headed hos." That's something you might get away with when shooting the breeze with "the guys." You most certainly don't do it on a nationally syndicated radio show.

It isn't ballsy. It isn't sexist. It isn't racist. It is 100% pure stupidity.

He doesn't need to be fired. Hell he doesn't even need to be suspended. He just needs a swift kick in the ass for being a grade-A moron.

its also stupid to make such a fuss over what one man says

its even more stupid to allow what one dumbass old talk show host says to somehow be a crutch on your life and let it affect you that much

im starting to think the one freedom thats more important than freedom of speech is the freedom to not have to be even remotely offended by anything

Quote :
"Don Imus's racist remarks about the Rutgers University women's basketball team have caused plenty of anger and sadness among right-thinking people, but they have brought unspeakable joy to one person: Howard Stern.
The shock jock-in-chief's orgy of schadenfreude reached a crescendo yesterday as he celebrated his bitter rival's public shaming on his Sirius Satellite Radio show. Stern devoted a large portion of his show to the topic, repeatedly playing clips of Imus's penitent appearance on Al Sharpton's talk show. Some of Stern's choice jibes after the jump ...

• "He does nothing. He mumbles, he can't speak English, he can't be understood. He was never funny. You listen to the show, I defy you to laugh."

• "He's completely insane."

• "Go away. Really. It's time."

• "There's probably a 70 percent chance [CBS Radio and MSNBC are] going to have to fire this guy.... He's in for a shitstorm because the girl's basketball team is going to have a press conference, and that's going to look real bad."

• "I guarantee you the wife leaves him. If he loses his job, she leaves him within a year. [And if that happens,] I will leave Beth to fuck her."

• "If it was me and I did something stupid like that I would just go on and say, 'I'm not going on Al Sharpton's show. Al Sharpton is a piece of shit. He's just a human being that is bankrupt, and he should pay his bills.... I would rather just leave the radio than apologize to that man.... I like Al Sharpton, by the way."

• "I mean, come on, Al Sharpton. Imus, get some fucking dignity." [Burps.]

• "I've never seen a 67-year-old guy look that bad."

• "Imus is a moron."

• "Imus had a perfectly nice life, he had no listeners. No one ever bothered him. Now all of a sudden he's getting all this attention, he's cracking. He handled that like shit."

• "How is Imus on the radio? Do you understand a word he says?"

• "He looks awful. How old is Imus for real? Doesn't he look 80?""

ala RADAR
