I have an '05 4runner and i want to be able to play my ipod thru the stock system. So i was looking online and the new toyota FJ has the ipod adapter that comes with their cd players. my question is...if i bought the FJ stock headunit and switched it out w/ my 4runner one, would it just plug into my 4runner headunit cables with no problems? i know itd be easier to just buy a new cd player but i wanna keep it stock, plus i dont want an FM transmitter

If it's the same size and shape then most likely the plugs will fit and it could just be a swap.

You may be able to just use one of these...

the answer is no, your 4 runner has a 6 speaker system with rear audio control, the fj has a 10 speaker system, with no rear control and an integral navigation system

I used an older version of one of these, they cost about $150 and plug into the CD-changer port in the back of the stock system (of course this wouldn't work if you have a CD-changer). Took about 20 minutes to install, got a dash mount and you can use the iPod controls (which I prefer) or the headunit's cd changer controls to control the iPod.

even if it worked, why would you pay through the nose to get a factory stereo instead of an aftermarket that is plug and play?
