Nought to 60mph in 3.9 seconds? Check. One hundred and seventy miles per hour top speed? Check. Seventy miles per gallon? Check.
Eh? We're talking about a supercar, right?
Ah, but the Trident Iceni is not your average supercar.
The key to its huge performance and superb economy is the unusual powerplant: a 6.6-litre V8 turbodiesel more normally found in American GM pick-up trucks.
The weirdness continues with the Iceni's eight-speed automatic gearbox that copes with the 375bhp and 520lb ft of torque.
To prove the Iceni's economy credentials, the firm is filling up its demonstrator with 100 litres of bio-diesel fuel and driving it to Monaco (some 900 miles).
The idea is to get to Monaco on a single tank, with the filler officially sealed to prevent any sneaky fill-ups.
The car is due to leave Trident's Norfolk base on April 17 before it goes on display at the Top Marques International Motor Show from April 19-22 in Monaco.
Trident is now taking orders for the £60,000 Iceni. " |

^oh yeah. what is max revs on that engine anyway? 5200? 3450?!
revs number from: http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/general/0703dp_gm_diesel_engine_swap/ last piece of info on the table under 6.6L
but since the hp is higher 375 vs 300 and the torque is lower 520 vs 660, I'm guessing it's modified to be "revvier" or I've got the wrong engine
[Edited on April 13, 2007 at 3:36 PM. Reason : even lower revs than I thought!] 4/13/2007 3:30:59 PM |

pretty damn cool.
the drop in torque may be for the sake of the drivetrain. diesels are brutal on things.
i don't understand why it's referred to as a gm diesel though. gm happens to put the same motor in their hd trucks, and funds alot of production costs, but isuzu is really the mastermind behind it. 4/13/2007 4:26:25 PM |

you know, the iceni has been an almost-there car for years now... first it was a 2.5L ford v6, then I think they went with a modular ('97?) quad-cam ford v8 from a cobra, and were playing around with an ls1 before this... 4/13/2007 5:38:05 PM |

That's a beautiful car, wow. I see a lot of TVR in it, but it's different enough to be original.
Interesting choice on the engine as well--definitely different and it sounds like they're getting good performance out of it... 4/13/2007 6:11:21 PM |
