This is the biggest bunch of horseshit I've ever heard.
If they are required to archive e-mail communications...
that is about as simple an operation that you can possibly imagine.
I mean, are you really going to have us believe that the same government that has the NSA can't get their basic communication shit together.
I don't believe any of what they're saying. 4/14/2007 12:47:10 AM |

yeah, i read this today while eating lunch at McDs, and I laughed out loud.
either they are completely incompetent bunch of clowns who couldnt find their ass with a map....
or they're lying.
i'd love to say "ass clowns", but its only 5 days to go before AG Gonzalez testifies before the Judiciary Committee.
i got $5 says they'll "find" the emails at midnight before the morning of the testimony. 4/14/2007 12:53:18 AM |

"I wouldn't rule out that there were a potential 5 million e-mails lost," White House Spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.
The administration was already facing sharp questions about whether top presidential advisers including Karl Rove improperly used Republican National Committee e-mail that the White House said later disappeared.
Congressional investigators have questioned whether White House aides used e-mail accounts from the Republican Party and President Bush's re-election campaign for official government business to avoid scrutiny of those dealings.
Patrick Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor in the CIA leak case, disclosed last year that some White House e-mails in 2003 were not saved as standard procedure dictated.
In a January 23, 2006, letter to the defense team of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Fitzgerald wrote: "We advise you that we have learned that not all e-mail of the Office of Vice President and the Executive Office of President for certain time periods in 2003 was preserved through the normal archiving process on the White House computer system."
Robert Luskin, personal attorney for Rove, told CNN Friday that he "has no reason to doubt" Fitzgerald's assertion that some White House e-mail was missing.
"You're quite right," Luskin said in a telephone interview. "There was a gap there."
"The biggest problem here is really that here is a White House that is deliberately violating an existing statute that requires them to preserve all records," said [the watch group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington,] "And we have significant evidence now both from the RNC e-mail and the White House e-mail that are missing that the White House was using every means possible to avoid complying with the law."
...
"Rove has always understood from very early on in the Bush administration that RNC and campaign e-mail were being archived," said Luskin. "He was absolutely unaware until very, very recently that any e-mails were lost. And he never asked that e-mails be deleted or asked for the authority to delete e-mails."

Agreed, this is either malice or gross incompetence. Either way, its damning for the White House (as if things couldn't get worse for them).

It's obviously malice, but gullible republicans will convince themselves that it was an accident. Even the smallest, poorest organizations keep several levels of backups.

I guess that wild party they had last night spilled too many bodily fluids on the white house e-mail servers (and their backups).
Or maybe they're just full of shit. 4/14/2007 7:01:26 PM |

They should get the person who finally found Hillary's Rose Law Firm records and see if he can find those e-mails. 4/14/2007 10:53:21 PM |
