I would like a 12x digital camera ~5-7 Megapixels. I would like to spend ~$400. Does anyone have a suggestion or own such a camera?

i assume a point-and-shoot? i mean, technically the "prosumer" cameras are P&S (with manual settings as an option), but they're a lot bulkier

that said...you'll never go wrong with canon IS

My co-worker has one and for the small size, weight and the shear 10mp size, it actually works pretty good for those pics on the go. Pretty damn cheap too. Saw them on sale at Tigerdirect under 200 last week.

You could also invest in a used/on sale Canon Rebel XT and pick up a 300mm telephoto lens, 400ish for body, 300ish for lens. Depends on where you look.
