why the hell do you even need financial aid.
4/18/2007 1:43:38 AM
rofl, holy mother of god, my EFC is like half that.
4/18/2007 2:04:15 AM
yeah FAFSA always fucks me. It always says like family contribution $14000 or something. I haven't even seen a fraction of that money. About the only thing my rents have paid for after my freshman year is health insurance, and cell phone bill
4/18/2007 11:05:58 AM
I don't understand how they come up with EFC... if my parents actually gave what it said they would of been eating ramen every night and they live a very low key lifestyle anyway.edit: and my parents gave my $0 when I was applying.[Edited on April 18, 2007 at 12:03 PM. Reason : ,]
4/18/2007 12:02:08 PM
fafsa can die. if my parents met the efc, they wouldn't be eating. stupid goverment keeping the monies away
4/18/2007 1:42:36 PM
4/18/2007 2:56:44 PM

4/18/2007 3:57:34 PM

4/18/2007 7:34:32 PM
Wow you guys have high EFCs Mine says 0 and has the past two years.
4/18/2007 9:53:24 PM
you can still apply for stafford loans.
4/18/2007 10:07:07 PM
yeah my dad was unemployed for like 3-4 months last year and now my sister is in school so maybe uncle sam will finally open his wallet and give me some fucking money for the last semester i am in school next spring (note i'll not be in school this fall)
4/18/2007 10:12:18 PM
you can still get unsubsidized loans.
4/18/2007 10:22:39 PM
Just bite the bullet and get an unsubsidized loan. Try to pay the interest as you go, and join the rest of society in debt. It's the American way.
4/18/2007 10:39:45 PM
I'm glad I'm fortunate enough that my parents and grandparents had the foresight to set up a college and first home nest egg for me when I was born. Granted...the college egg hatched and ran out within the first year because of the out of state tuition vultures.
4/19/2007 9:06:47 AM
supposedly my moms parents like gave 100k to some catholic priest in ohio about 25 years ago...i was gonna get 25k of that
4/19/2007 12:20:03 PM

4/20/2007 9:55:04 PM
4/21/2007 3:35:59 AM
idk maybe...honestly i dont even think that story is but maybe like 50 percent truth...u know how parents lie to their children to make them believe certain things easier
4/21/2007 4:00:23 AM
yeah, like they are telling you you are normal
4/21/2007 11:12:25 AM
oh snap!
4/21/2007 1:21:04 PM
4/22/2007 10:46:26 AM
holy mother of god, how do you guys have such low EFCs?
4/22/2007 11:07:34 AM
As you get older, your parents impact on your EFC diminishes.
4/22/2007 12:34:06 PM
When I head back for a Ph.D. in the fall, my wife will be heading back for an education degree. I'm funded, so no worries for me. I'm worried about her situation, though. If we've both been working the past few years and making good money, is the EFC going to be based on last year's tax return, and thus say we need to pay out the ass before we get help? I'm pretty sure the government won't care that neither of us will be working and won't have much money, because we had money last year.
4/22/2007 1:04:26 PM
^yep, that's the same problem I had when I returned to NCSU. EFC was based on income of $36K/yr, even though I was only going to be making $10K/yr when I went back to schoolwhat you need to do is contact the Financial Aid office and ask them to re-evaluate your EFC. they'll ask for a letter explaining your circumstances, payroll stubs, etc and can reduce your EFC to match your current income instead of last year's tax return
4/22/2007 2:51:50 PM
As far as the EFCs go -- If your EFC is greater than the cost of attendance, you have no need. That doesn't mean you can't get financial aid. Financial aid encompasses grants, scholarships and LOANS. If you have no need, you just don't get the need-based scholarships or grants. You can however get a student loan (if you haven't met the federal cap on funding).Nonlogic - TGD is correct in his response. You would need to contact Michigan's Fin. Aid office and tell them your situation. The process is known as a Professional Judgement or Reconsideration for financial aid. They will see if they can reduce your EFC based on calculations for your projected 2007 income. So if you are still working up until you leave for school, that income will have to be calculated towards the EFC. They can't just get rid of it. But the EFC can potentially be cut by a significant amount. I don't know Michigan's processes for awarding funds, so you'd have to get all the details from them.

5/28/2007 8:38:12 PM
it hasnt been processed yet, it should go through in the morning(the loan) from what they told me.thanks for the info
5/29/2007 1:29:42 AM
so evidently PLUS loans go through on tuesdays and thursdays, and we are supposed to get the refund disbursement within 2-3 business days of that. And if you get a PLUS loan for the summer, it will be split into 2 payments if you are signed up for SS I and II.
6/5/2007 2:47:01 PM
i did all my summer session paperwork april 27th and still haven't gotten the refund. it better go through tomorrow.
