none of those babies are viable, so it doesn't matter.
i still wouldn't consider an abortion.
the only time abortion would be warranted in my view is if the mother's life was in dnager.

So just because these babies won't live as long, their lives are worth less than a normal baby?
The first baby (saw on discovery channel) is actually capable of living for more than a couple years.
The moment you say "oh this baby doesn't count, it won't live as long" you become hypocritical to your cause.4/21/2007 2:18:55 PM |

OK, I didn't express myself properly.
Even if that baby lived till 18 (or longer), I still wouldn't consider an abortion.
When I said "it didn't matter", I was actually talking about people who might be on the fence in this issue. They might want to abort them, but once they hear that those babies won't live for more than a year or so, they might be like "OK, I won't abort." So in fact, I was indirectly telling the thread creator to come up with better examples to be able to seperate people into two camps and not leave anyone on the fence, i.e., examples where babies are horribly malformed AND they would live long.
For me though, it doesn't matter, no matter how long they live, I wouldn't abort. 4/21/2007 2:27:22 PM |

No, I am asking people if they knew that their baby would be born like that or would die a horrible painful death as soon as they were born (sure, bleeding from every orifice is just fine) then would they be okay with abortion?4/21/2007 5:48:45 PM |

They never know the mother is going to die....they only know there may be a strong risk of that. Neither is more important.
If a pregnancy/delivery kills a woman, it is not murder; it is simply tragedy. If a mother hires a trained baby-butcherer to kill her child, it is murder.
You don't have to figure out 'who is more important.' 4/21/2007 7:12:33 PM |

How can you possibly disagree with that? Doctors can give strong likelihoods, darn near guarantees at times....but they're still don't know for certain the mother will die.
I know a mother who was told this. She refused an abortion, despite the pleas from her doctors. The child is 4 years old now, and the mother is perfectly fine.
Besides, even if they did know she would die, it accomplishes nothing for the pro-choice crowd. Such circumstances still do not justify taking the life of your child.4/21/2007 8:22:48 PM |

For anyone who was disturbed or depressed by the topic of this thread. I finished crying and found this article through wikipedia:
http://www.10news.com/health/3919722/detail.html
It made me feel a little better.
I'm trying to overcome my "phobia" of people with deformities, particularly those that reflect pain. I've always had extremely emotional responses to obvious deformities, and to this day, I'm so uncomfortable with them that I will leave when someone with a deformity comes in my vicinity. The first encounter I can actually remember I was 7 or 8, and I saw a man who had been burned on his face. I was eating dinner with my family, and when I saw him, I ran out of the restaurant screaming. I cried for hours, and my parents did their best to help me cope. I know these people don't want my empathy or my pity, but I still cry... 4/21/2007 10:27:51 PM |

but at the same time, i am just awed at this kid's resilience and determination. he is a triathlete! i probably would have never left the house if i were him, and would have wanted to die.
this is amazing:

Abortion should be available to anyone. If a woman is raped, she should have the right and the majority of the US believes it too, to have an abortion.
The problem I see is that many people view abortions as a form of birth control and that's not how it should be used. A requirement to have your tubes tied should be in place and honestly I wouldn't mind my tax dollars going toward that.
As long as a woman who's life is in danger, or was raped, should never be forced to deliver that child. Past that... I'll bend to the will of the populace. 4/25/2007 5:29:04 PM |

OK..but if abortion is a private decision of the woman...what right do you have telling her she can't use it as a form of birth control? Is she truly in charge of her body? Doesn't her wishes trump the fetus inside her? If the fetus has no rights of survival whatsoever, then we cannot put any restrictions on the women's wishes...right?
Because murdering a human is morally wrong, the on-demand pro-choicers must refuse to ever acknowledge the fetus' human status.
Most rational people would concede that at some point a fetus is a human being. At some stage in the pregnancy, aborting the child would be murder. Murder has traditionally been the jurisdiction of the states. The abortion issue should be taken away from the federal gov't and returned to the states to decide at what point abortion is murder.4/26/2007 9:36:44 AM |

^Abortion is not about murder. It is about the right to decide whether or not to sustain a life. Our society mandates that a person is not required to donate bodily fluids or tissues to sustain the life of another. To do so would be ridicules. The same applies to a fetus. There can be no distinction, a person is a person. So If a woman has to support the life of a fetus, why can't we make you donate blood or an organ when needed? Is there a difference? 4/26/2007 4:11:58 PM |

I'm gonna say something crazy here.
It is a human being, and I'm okay with offing it. It's a human being inside another human being, which to me makes it a different type of human being, and it's cool to kill it.4/27/2007 8:06:24 AM |
