thoughts, opinions? Looking at this bike, its a 2003 -1 tooth front sprocket, Tiforce full system, PCIII (custom map), slide stops and Velocity stacks, steel braid front brake lines, and hyperpro stabilizer. $4700. I have never owned a bike with this many miles and my roomate is thinking about picking this one up. also any estimates on 'actual milage' or how much the -1 front sprocket would change it?
Thanks 4/23/2007 11:49:26 PM |

the mileage is nothing to worry about. there's no reason a bike engine can't last as long as a car engine with proper care/maintinance. be more concerned with that than actual mileage.

yeah ur lookin at that black silver one on craigslist.
my 600rr has ~19,500 on it. but i put 1 down 2 up sprockets on it at 16 so it really only has probz 18,500.
bike engines last forever. ppl wreck them many times b4 the engine is done. 4/24/2007 12:40:36 AM |

sounds good, guess we will have to get plates. i was just thinking its so hard to see a plate on most bikes anyway, with a car following the bike we may be able to pull it off. I have the old 30 day tag from my honda but i am sure that is a worse offence than not having a tag at all 4/24/2007 10:52:39 AM |

We drove my roommate's R6 all the way from Durham to Johnson City, TN (up through Boone) without tags and didn't have any problems.
Just ride cautiously, don't act like an idiot, and have insurance and a license, etc. Have a bill of sale dated that day. If you have all that, I seriously doubt a cop would give you any crap as long as you could prove you were headed home.
Now, if you're doing wheelies on the way, you deserve anything the cop throws at ya 4/24/2007 11:58:22 AM |

If you can do the transaction during the day just have him meet you at the DMV in Fayetteville and get the plates there before riding back. It only takes 15 minutes to hand them the title, get the plates, and put them on the bike. That doesn't help you if you absolutely have to do the transaction at night. 4/24/2007 12:17:28 PM |

i can't begin to explain how stupid it is to ride/drive anything without insurance. i've definitely done it before, but will NEVER again after seeing first hand from my wreck what the consequences could be.
that said, you should be fine riding back with no tags even if you get pulled. i've been pulled like that, and it was fine. i made sure i had a printout of proof of insurance and the signed/notarized title. the cop did inform me you can get transfer plates from the dmv specifically for this purpose, which allow you (i think) 3 days. i also see no reason why you can't go ahead and get a real registration/plate from a dmv office there since it's in nc. 4/24/2007 12:30:58 PM |

you can get the plates or transfer tags, but this is going to take place at night or on sat/sunday. he will have insurence on it but i guess without tags i should ride it back since i have my endorsement and he doesnt. and what are these signs I have seen on other cars that say (hand written) tags applied for? dont think i have seen it in NC though, definately in SC and georgia though. 4/24/2007 12:41:45 PM |

from what i was told, you can pick up transfer tags before you leave as long as you have the vin and proof of insurance.
another possibility is if the seller currently has it registered, just get him to leave his tag on it until you get back. mail it back to him, or you can just turn it in at the dmv here.
either way, insurance would be my main concern. worst case scenario you just get a ticket for not having a tag and have to pay a fine. no insurance has the potential for MUCH bigger problems. especially on a bike.

I've had sellers leave the tag on for me on the last two vehicles I purchased. I turned the tag in for them when I registered the vehicle and then faxed them the receipt showing that the tag had been turned in. It made it easier for both of us, but you need to work up a little trust and give them your word that you're just going to take the bike home and park it until you get your own tags.

alright, talked to the guy, he is going to leave his tag on it, we are picking it up tonight. I didnt want to ask him to leave it on there, because if I was in his shoes that would sound shady to me. So I waited till he offered and finally he did. So going to get it tonight, hope it doesnt rain! Should be a sweet little bike, and fast. I think my roomate is getting a hell of a deal on it, even though it has higher milage. 4/24/2007 3:28:46 PM |

haha, I drove my old Miata home from Baltimore with no tags and BigBlueRam following me. I had the title and proof of insurance in hand, though.
bought a YZF-600 in Greenville once, rode it back to Raleigh with no tags. Got pulled that time, but showed him the title and proof of insurance, and he let me go.

6.30 every tuesday at Triangle Cycles off 15-501 in Durham. fun ride, usually 20-30 bikes, you go through like 3 counties in 40 mins or so, then they get food and beer at carolina ale house usually. i havent been coming out this year cause of my class schedule but i will try as soon as classes are over while i still have my r1

just got back, nice bike, tires will need replaced eventually. Other than that it is in great shape. and just so ya'll know, if you need to get to or around fayetteville, DO NOT USE MAPQUEST. took an hour to get there, and another hour to find dudes house. he is sore as hell from the ride home but hasent ridden in 2 years so that is understandable. 4/24/2007 9:37:00 PM |
