Wolfpack Sports Network is moving its flagship station from AM 680 to MIX 101.5 starting next season. Coaches shows will be on 99.9.
Im sure there are a lot of people who are happy to see this, but personally I prefer sports on AM radio...I just prefer that grainy sound for sports coverage. Plus I doubt Mix is going to do a 3+ hour postgame call-in show, and you never know when WRAL might preempt the regular programming on the radio for storm coverage while we are playing an away game. 4/25/2007 7:23:52 AM |

I just know that I'll be able to actually hear the game now. I live around the middle of the state and could get 680 but had to be sitting in exactly the right spot. This is good news. 4/25/2007 8:12:33 AM |

Yes, this is very good news. 101.5 has alot more range across the state than 680. 4/25/2007 8:22:10 AM |

Quote : | "NC State officials announced today that an agreement has been reached involving its rights holder, Wolfpack Sports Marketing, and Capitol Broadcasting Corporation to partner with CBC station Mix 101.5 WRAL-FM. The agreement moves Wolfpack sports programming to the FM side of the dial and solidifies NC State’s flagship radio partnership through the 2016-2017 seasons. Mix 101.5 WRAL FM is one of the most powerful (100,000 watt) and popular stations in the Triangle and surrounding areas. Radio broadcasts for the Football and Men’s Basketball season will move to Mix 101.5 starting with the NC State vs. Central Florida football match-up on Sept. 1. “Our relationship with NC State has been a great one over the years and we are extremely excited about expanding our affiliation with the University through this radio broadcast agreement,” Jim Goodmon, President of CBC said. WCMC 99.9-FM will carry the weekly Tom O’Brien and Sidney Lowe coach’s call-in shows on Monday nights. The first Tom O’Brien show will debut on Monday, August 26, 2007. The Wolfpack Sports Network’s coverage of the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament will also be carried on WCMC-FM, with the exception of NC State games broadcast on Mix 101.5 WRAL FM. While excited about this arrangement, NC State Director of Athletics, Lee Fowler was also appreciative of the long-standing arrangement Wolfpack Sports has enjoyed with WPTF 680-AM. “We are proud of the growth that the Wolfpack nation has enjoyed throughout its partnership with 680 WPTF and Curtis Media. They were with us during many of the great moments in Wolfpack history. Now, CBC’s long-term commitment to NC State provides us with the strategic advantage we need to develop the great moments that will make up the future of Wolfpack Athletics,” Fowler said. The excitement for this change was evident when talking with Director of Marketing & Promotions, Chris Alston, “The listenership of 101.5 WRAL FM is consistent with the composition of our Wolfpack fan and alumni bases. Mix 101.5 WRAL-FM’s programming is also conducive to the family atmosphere we strive for at NC State events.”" |

yes, but when you are on the road at game time (which for some reason, I am alot) there is a much greater chance of 1015 coming in clear than some local AM station. 4/25/2007 8:44:12 AM |

I guess Im usually somewhere where I can get it loud and clear...only problem was when I was in the RBC for the womens tournament game trying to listen to the mens game (Im certain I could pick up AM stations inside the building before, but not that night).
Yeah it is a good thing for the most part, but I hate Mix and hate that Im going to have to listen to it now. 4/25/2007 8:44:55 AM |

The nice think about having a major AM station is that it has a huge range at night. As a college student in Gainesville, FL, I could sometimes pick up WPTF for a big State-Carolina game. WRAL won't give the NY to FL range of WPTF, but maybe that's not as important now with Internet radio and so many games on TV. 4/25/2007 8:49:08 AM |

you could pick up 680 to florida? jeez... i can't pick it up in fayetteville most of the time.
^^ I don't think the programming will be any different, just on another station. It's not as if you have to listen to fergie and nickelback now. 4/25/2007 8:59:42 AM |

WXRC 95.7 the Ride carries it here in Charlotte and they carry the whole broadcast. They don't do the coach's call-in shows on nights there isn't a game ie. Monday. There range is pretty nice you can pick that station up in Asheville. I prefer FM because its easier to get in the office. 4/25/2007 9:21:35 AM |

So our coaches show is on the country station... Great
If it wasn't for that, I'd be thrilled with the move. I'm assuming this won't change the women's games and baseball on KNC, right?

Yeah, once in a while, I'll turn on to the AM and catch something from Chicago or Cleveland, yet I can't get the AM station that is 5 miles from home.4/25/2007 10:08:55 AM |

I kind of like the grainy sound of AM also, but screw that...grainy is one thing, horrible interference is another

If I used to have the game on in my car, I'd probably run inside from driving to catch the game on TV and leave it on 680.
The next day i'd get in the car, crank it up, and rush limbaugh would be yelling about some idiotic shit.
i guess now this scenario is the same, except replace rush limbaugh with everclear and matchbox 20. both are obnoxious. 4/25/2007 1:16:15 PM |

Man, if they really simulcast all the pack games ONLINE, this is reason enough to make the change.
It's a fact that someone, somewhere always needs "an online stream of the game" when not in range of 680AM.
Promised Pack games online will be huge. 4/25/2007 2:17:17 PM |

^^Ha, for television, yeah, I want all my games in HD, or as many as possible. But radio is different...its a throwback to an earlier time, when the games werent on TV and people sat around and listened to the radio. That grainy AM sound of sports coverage is just a classic feel.
Also Im not a fan of the deal being on two stations. Everything basketball and football has been on the same station for 50 years, now its going to be split up. I just like having one home for Wolfpack sports. 4/26/2007 12:37:30 AM |
