my HD just crashed this morning and i'm going to have to get it RMA'd and install Windows and all my apps all over again. i've never created a ghost image but i think it's time to now - it's just too tedious to get things the way i like them every time.

is norton ghost still the best program? or should i be using something else to create this image once i get it all the way i want it?

Ghost works great if your restoring it to the same hardware normally. I like Acronis True Image personally. It's done a great job for me in the past and has saved my ass many times.

yeah i used to be a ghost fan but acronis is a far superior product for non-enterprise uses.

15 day trial here:

ghost is awesome but if you dont wanna buy anything, download sysprep and g4u. sysprep your image after you make it so it's not hardware dependent and then make a 1:1 disk copy over g4u.

an image will still be chipset dependent with sysprep

i believe you'll have to change the HAL to get around that
