Assholes. Some black lady was bragging about how she and some other pace car driver had taken up both lanes and had traffic behind them for miles.

"Durham Pace Car Slows Speeders By Tim Nelson
(04/29/07 -- DURHAM) - A new program in Durham encourages citizens to follow every single rule of the road -- right down to not exceeding the speed limit.

It's no secret across the Triangle that people speed. "The average mindset is as long as I stay 10 miles an hour above the speed limit, police department's are not gonna stop me, give me a ticket," said Eric Hester, Durham Police Department.
Pace car driver Barry Ragin said, "I got people driving through my neighborhood you know, 50, 55, 60 miles an hour sometimes."

With so many people picking up the pace, one city is trying to slow them down.

Durham's pace car program is new this year. Drivers sign a pledge to follow the rules of the road then show their support with a sticker.

"By sticking a sign on the back of my car that says I'm gonna drive the speed limit, and I respect you to drive the speed limit when you're in my vicinity," said Ragin. "It starts changing people's attitudes I think."

Another pace car driver, Cora Cole, said, "It makes you clearly a law-abiding citizen."

But Eyewitness News found it can also make you the object of others' irritation, so we wanted to see what being a pace car is like.

Eyewitness News signed up, put a sticker on and hit the road.

Aside from some irritated drivers being forced to drive the speed limit, police and drivers say the program is running smoothly.

"Changing the culture in which people think it's OK to drive at whatever speed they feel like, especially through residential areas," Ragin said.

The program has nearly 500 drivers signed up, and the efforts to slow down are quickly picking up speed.

yeah... I bitch at people who speed past me, but honestly, there's a reason whey there's a slow lane... MOVE THE FUCK OVER BITCH! I go the speed limit in my cage all the time, but I stay to the far right as possible. I don't care if ppl pass me, as long as I get to where I'm going safely and on my own time.

What we need to control as reckless drivers, ppl who lane change between cars like 1 foot away with no signals and cut across 4 lanes of traffic.

ill make sure i pass them on the shoulder, cut them off and then ride my brakes in front of them.
in fact, i hope they pull that shit on some coked up, blood-shot eyed, rough looking negro who has nothing to lose.

it is one thing to drive like a jerk, but to annoy ordinary folks who go 10-20 over in light traffic is fucking ridiculous.

Maybe someone can go out there in an old junky car... pass the "law abiding citizen"... Slow down... then slam on the brakes. They'll run into you. And it will be their fault. Haha. So much for their law abiding-ness.

I was just thinking that the sticker will make thier car a target. Even people who wouldnt normaly do something stupid will now think about "accidentaly" opening thier door too far if they park beside them.

The sticker is a terrible idea.

What a delusional, naive idiot. WOW.

This is one of the worst things I've ever heard of. I've got a better idea for this though. In Driver's Ed, actually TEACH THOSE SLOW FUCKERS TO STAY IN THE RIGHT LANE.
