I'd like to hear about people's gardens, whether they're vegetable, herb, flower, rock, whatever...
I went out this weekend and got alot of herbs for my window boxes from Lowes... they were $3 a plant tho, which seems expensive to me Any ideas on when or how often to harvest herbs to freeze or dry? 4/30/2007 4:10:53 PM |

carolina jasmine (potted) pink jasmine 2 gerber daisies (potted) 3 camellias vincas and petunias mixed in pots and window boxes two struggling dahlias (potted) two indoor viney plants--one is a dwarf of the other, unknown but it's a very common one another indoor viney plant, unknown but it's a very common one one relative of a palm tree, origin unknown...it was a gift...my office building has a lot of them around but i still dunno what it is 4 amarillias, 1 indoor 3 outdoor (potted) one outdoor viney plant, unknown but survived the winter to my amazement (potted) one potted gardenia 9 day lillies in window boxes that i have sitting along the railing of our back deck to provide additional privacy one lucky bamboo 4 pots of paperwhites (indoors)
i have basil, chives, and rosemary in seeds that i'm planning to grow inside. i may do them outside as a bed border though...not too sure yet.

Lots o' peppers, lots o' herbs. I dry about half of my herbs and I pretty much harvest them when I'm bored or when I want to plant new stuff, which I'm sure is not the best method 4/30/2007 4:23:53 PM |

surely you can taste a difference between what you get at the grocery store during winter and a nice juicy one from the farmers market in summer...? I know I can.
I havent really tried lots of different tomatos tho. All I know is the german johnsons do have an intense flavor..meaty but juicy too. 4/30/2007 10:02:22 PM |
