I can't believe they killed off spiderman. The funeral scene at the end was a bit over the top though. But I mean who didn't see peter's hand coming through the ground when it zoomed in on his grave at the end.

my complaints

1. Bad CGI in some of the parts (we can't make it good, so we'll make it fast and shaky)
2. No Spidey Sense
3. Didn't feel attached to any of the characters
4. Emo spiderman
5. Writers trying way to hard with the jokes and failing 90% of the time

I thought emo-spidey was the best part.

Look at it this way:

Evil Dead = Spider-Man (pretty serious shit)
Evil Dead 2 = Spider-Man 2 (serious undertone but a lot of jokes on top)
Army of Darkness = Spider-Man 3 (some bitchin' fight scenes with a shit load of jokes everywhere)

3 things i liked

Bruce Campbell's appearance (single funniest thing in the movie)...
The "turning into a villian" cgi effects, i've always enjoyed the spiderman movies' cgi style as far as that goes...
mega-sandman (what can i say, i like the sandman)

and that's... about... it...

emo spidey annoyed me...
eddie brock annoyed me...
depressed mary jane annoyed me...
amnesia plotlines annoy me...
random last-second side changes with barely any lead up (and no apology beforehand) annoy me...
strut scenes that last a good 5 minutes longer than necessary annoy me...

in the end, despite eddie brock annoying me i was really hoping that venom and sandman wuold beat the tar out of spidey...

I was really disappointed. It was over the top and cheesy in a lot of parts. Most of the theater i was in laughed at a bunch of parts that should have been serious b/c they were so cheesy.
It even drew comparisons to "Batman Forever" or even worse "Batman and Robin"

1. CGI was horrible...I'm lenient with this usually but it just looked to plasticy and rubbery.
2. Venom. Venom is supposed to be a badass. Topher Grace was fine as Eddie Brock, but once he turns into Venom, I don't want to see topher grace's face anymore. Especially when he has a line like "ooo my spidey sense is tingling, if you know what i mean" Give me a break, everyone was laughing at venom, he was stupid. Now I know why Sam Raimi originally didn't want Venom in the movie...b/c he didn't know how to incorporate him right.
3. I thought getting rid of the symbiote with sound was stupid and cheesy, even if that is the way it is in the comics...still cheesy.
4. The dialogue in the movie was HORRIBLE. Some of the lines made me writhe in pain. The news reporter during the end battle made me want to hurl.
5. Harry was cheesy the whole time... and they teamed up? But only after the weird butler comes up and says "I see things in this house...I loved your father..blabla" The whole theater laughed during that whole scene.
6. The symbiote bonds with Spidey...and we get 2 weird/awkward dance scenes. Looked like something that would come in a special features or deleted scenes.
7. Gwen Stacey, pointless.
8. The Sandman was my least favorite villain. I hated the music everytiem he showed up and he was too large. I kept thinking back to "The Mummy" or something. Then the scene with him and Spidey at the end, "I forgive you"... oh give me a break...

I may think of more, but that's my main gripes. I just thought it was too cheesy.

I don't plan on seeing this one until it makes it's way to Netflix but after reading some reviews I have a few questions about Venom.

Where does it come from in the movie? They obviously aren't going to have the Secret War. I thought having J.J.'s son be an astronaut was a reasonable way to get the alien to earth but the review I read said it just fell from the sky into Spider-man's lap - just like that? I suppose it could have been a meteorite or have some more elaborate origin and simply tossed out a window with that kind of description.

The same review said that Eddy Brock's motivation for killing Spider-man was because he lost a job because of claims of plagiarism.

The movie sounds pretty weak, but it was hard to read past all the sarcasm to get to the actual story points.

^ Peter and MJ were in the park talking looking up at the sky. As they were about to leave, a small meteorite crashed into the ground behind some bushes. The symbiote thing crawled out of it. Then it attached itself to the back of Peter's moped as him and MJ were leaving.

Thats basically what happened with Brock.

I agree with ya'll on alot this. CGI was ok for me. The 70s Symbiote Peter annoyed the hell out of me. They could of done without him being John Travolta.
I wish Venom was killed off the way he was. I hope he comes back.
Some of the fight scenes were good especially Peter and Harry's 2nd fight in the mansion. That was the most serious one to many.
I don't know who plays Jonna Jameison but he just awesome. He was great as usual in this one.

Yeah, they seriously hosed this movie. It started going downhill when they tried to do too many villians. I thought they did a decent job of developing Eddie Brock's character, but they didn't even try to develop Venom. They didn't even give a mediocre description of why the symbiote still had spider powers. Brock never refered to himself as 'We'.

Emo Parker sucked. With the symbiote, he is supposed to be badass. He eventually gets the clothes down, but his hair is supposed to be slick.

They took too many creative liberties. The symbiote isn't a suit that he can take off and put into a big emo chest so he can have big emo yearnings for it. The symbiote isn't evil, such as portrayed at the end of the movie. Gwen Stacy was a bad idea (would have made more sense as a Felicia Hardy character).

Also, I can't help but think that the people who decided to make Harry Osborne help out Spider-Man were the same people who thought it would be a good idea to have Ashlee Simpson perform in the Rose Bowl halftime show.

Felicia would of been alot better than Gwen. At least, it would of opened the door to a possible Black Cat appearance in the next one.
I think they should of saved Sandman for 4 or 5 and just done the whole movie on Venom. They could of just left Harry laid out after he crashed in the alley and brought him back towards the end. Rest of the movie solely on Brock/Venom.

agreed...

honestly, i feel that since they really wanted to make a "Peter Parker learns to forgive" movie then they probably shouldn't have had venom in the final battle at all... cut out venom's roll completely after the suit attaches itself to brock and ignore the redemption of Harry until another movie... just have spidey versus giant sandman and let spidey use his genius brain to figure out how to turn sandman into glass...

then youv'e got venom AND osborne's redemption already set up for a 4th movie... and you can give venom the time he really needs to develop (and you can use a little more time in this movie to establish brock being an asshole)...

I liked it, but it did have a few issues.

1. Gwen Stacy was kind of tacked on.
2. The symbiote in general is one giant coincidence. Peter Parker just HAPPENS to be near it in the park when the meteorite hits and Eddie Brock just HAPPENS to be in the same place as him when Spidey loses it.
3. Venom's hate doesn't seem justified. He wants Parker dead because he destroyed his career (his fault) and stole his gf (some chick he had coffee with)?

I thought the fights against Harry were great. The Sandman was pretty well done as a character. Harry fighting along side him at the end was a little cheesy (OMG Spidey's gonna die, wait here's Harry at the last moment!), but I liked the way they handled his death. I didn't have a problem with much of the dialogue, but the news reporter was pretty bad and Stan Lee's part was lame. And emo Spider-man was funny, although he was a little overdone.

Overall I'd rank it 2nd > 3rd > 1st, mostly on the strength of the action and Harry's plotline.

I think Venom should have been introduced at the very end. There is more than enough with the symbiote, Sandman, and Harry to fill two movies without throwing Venom into the mix. Maybe have left 4 to have Lizard and Venom, tho I would rather see a Lizard/Mysterio team up. Venom is cool and all but he really needs his own movie without competing for screen time.

I get the feeling that Sam Rami was trying to wrap the whole Spider-Man series up to move on to other projects.

If there is a Spiderman 4, it will be synonymous with "Batman and Robin"...

this one was already borderline too cheesy.

and i usually don't gripe a lot about scientific stuff b/c after all, it is a MOVIE..

but when the meteorite landed in the park, it would have made a LOUD noise...there is noway peter and mary jane wouldn't have noticed it....
and also, I wish there had been some explanation about where it came from and more about what it was....just some random meteorite...

just be lucky it didn't randomly land near aunt may, she would have been extra feisty

Spider-Man is cheesy, but this was cheesy in the wrong way. When fighting, Spider-Man is supposed to have many little cheesy one liners, but they didn't even get that.

I really enjoyed the movie. I think it's at least as good as the first one. Topher Grace made a weak Venom, but Harry and Sandman made up for that.

As far as the action goes, the first fight between Peter and Harry is amazing.

Ha. I've been saying that line repeatedly today. "We... are Venom."

Topher Grace just isn't badass enough to be Eddie Brock. Also, they treated the symbiote as pure evil, which is bunk. It's the only good member of it's entire species. It only wants to please its host.

Peter is asshole for rejecting it.
